GENERAL NOTES:

All of the above testing was done from September 94 to February 95.

MR2230S is a surplus powder, I purchased 16 pounds of it from Powder Valley
Services in Missouri. It is a Accurate Arms powder that they mark "For
Commercial Use" and was going for about $60 per 8 pounds when I purchased it
about a year ago. I don't think that it is available now.

The MHG HP bullet is a bullet I purchased from a small bullet maker in Montana.
The jackets are made from 22LR brass. These bullets are very fragile, and will
tear up anything they hit. I shot a few prairie dogs with these using my bolt
action varmint rifle and the hits were very spectacular.

All of the above were chronographed with my Oehler Model 33 Chronograph and are
instrumental velocities at 12.5 feet to the center of the sky screens. Screen
spacing is 5 feet. The loads were chronographed on different days and the
temperature range was 50-70.

My rifle is a AR-15 with a 20" 1/9 twist heavy barrel. Typical accuracy with
open sights at 50 yards is 3/4" to 1 1/2" for 5 shot groups.

NOTE 1: I loaded these two loads at the range and I think the slight amount of
wind was causing my scale to give false readings. I also noticed that when I
increased the volume of my powder measure, the charge weight did not increase.
It also seemed that when I moved the main counter-poise of my scale from 20 to
25 grains and set the minor counter-poise back from 4.5 to 0 grains the scale
had about .2 grains of overlap. I think that may explain why the velocities
did not rise as would be expected. I have since ordered an electronic scale
and sent my 25 year old REDDING scale in to be recalibrated.

NOTE 2: This charge was flattening primers. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ITS USE. I
will be using a slightly modified RCBS Little Dandy rotor that I have set to
throw 25.3 grains of MR2230S. That should get me about 3150 FPS.

NOTE 3: I was having trouble getting the chronograph to take readings this day.
On most of the strings, I only got 2 or 3 of the 5 shot string. 22 grains of
MR2230S is the maximum listed on the jug of powder, but I talked to the guys at
Sierra and they said that they have tried up to 22.5 grains MR2230S with good
results. I plan to try these again some time soon.

I also have 16 pounds of WCC 852. I intend to try it with my 22-250's and my
270. Any ideas out there? I was told to start off using H414 data. The very
limited testing I have done seems to indicate that WCC852 is a bit slower than
the lot of H414 that I currently have. But I have noticed that H414 varies
quite a bit.

If anyone has any questions, leave me a message or write/call me.
