          SUGGESTIONS FOR FIRING THE AR-15 AT 600 YARDS


     The following message was extracted from the Firearms Echo and
relates to the use of the AR-15/M-16 being fired at 600 yards, as it
is at Camp Perry. Those shooters interested in Camp Perry will
benefit from this information.

     The AR is very good in reduced NMC but try it on a full 600 yard
course.  I shot my AR at Camp Perry last year and I've seen some
really astonishing things done with them (ie.  marines shooting 198
of 200 at 600 yds.).  I just built a new one and shot it at 600
yards.  This is the first time I've ever had an AR jam on me.  My
original Colt refuses to jam no matter what I do.  Considering I had
a part in putting all the pieces together I don't consider that too
bad.

     If you do decide to try 600 yards with it try a load of 25.9gr.
WW748 over sierra 69gr.  BTHP and crank your elevation up about 22
clicks (less then an M14) and then about half again the windage of an
M14.  I found that half again the windage of an M14 (.308) is enough
every time.  I used that with the new rifle at 600 yards this weekend
and was on within 1 click.
