Below is a list of equipment I usually carry on protective
Service assignments. Amount/type usually depends on
the jurisdiction I am traveling in and the local laws.

If you carry anything different, please share it with the group, I may
have missed something while typing in the list.

Train tactically with all this stuff on- it adds about 20 lbs. to your
weight.

Below is an example of what I would carry in my home state
on a protective service detail:

1. Two-way radio ( Motorola Visar w/ scrambler )- very small unit
2. Sureveillance ear-microphone kit for 2-way radio
3. Soft body armor vest.
4. "cool shirt" vest undergarment.
5. Sunglasses ( Gargoyles ) double as impact resistant goggles.
6. Sun Screen, minimum SPF 15- I use the travel size tubes.
7. Mini-Mag light ( AAA cell size ) with extra bulb
8. Nylon carrier for mini-mag light.
9. 2 pair latex gloves, 1 pocket CPR mask, 2 Nitrovinox anti-virual
towlettes ( for blood-borne pathogen control if exposed ).
10. Water bottle in vehicle or with support vehicle.
11. Jacket ( if indicated ) in support vehicle or wearing it.
12. Firearm with spare magazines and concealable holster.
13. Collapsable metal baton with nylon carrier.
14. 3 pairs of "flex cuffs"- essentially large wire ties ( metal handcuffs
get heavy when you carry all the other hardware ).
15. OC pepper gas spray with nylon carrier.
16. Spyderco one-hander folding knife clipped to outside pocket ( pants )
17. Cellular pocket phone ( since I am the CPA I get to carry more hardware)
keep a charged battery on the unit at all times.
18. Alpha-numeric pager ( digital is fine if you have a code sheet laminated
)
19. Laminated contact sheet with all phone/fax/pager numbers for the visit.
20. ID, and all your firearm, baton, and chemical agent permits.
21. One of those handy pre-paid phone cards for long distance calls or
      a calling card number.
22. Fanny-pack holster if in casual clothing.
23. Thunderwear holster if protectee is involved in sports activity.

Obviously you get your suits tailored a little large around the shoulders
and waist. Make sure you get them tailored so you don't "profile" a
weapon.

Of course in most overseas visits I would be un-armed due to weapons
restrictions, however I usually hire local < competent > talent with the
appropriate permits and training as backup. Off duty peace officers
with the specialized training make an excellent choice.

Florida is a nice state to visit since they will issue non-resident CCW
( concealed weapon ) firearm permits to qualified individuals.

Aircraft shipment is always a pain however.
