Every profession has it's buzz words and acronyms, Protective
Services is no different.

Below is a list of some of the most commonly used acronyms in the
industry:


1.  Advance Survey or Advance-  The survey conducted of all venue's
      , all routes of travel, all modes of transportation, including local 
     and open source intelligence.  Threat Assessment.

2.  Advance Agent-  Person doing the advance.

3.  Protective Service Agent- Part of an overall team of specially trained
    personnel that provide physical security to the principal ( protectee )

3.  Protectee- Person being protected- ( principal )

4.  Site Survey- An advance of a venue.  A venue is a location such as
    but not limited to a stadium or lecture hall.

5.  Route Survey- An advance of the route of travel including mapping,
    alternate route designation, and  " squeeze points "

6.  Survery Report- WRITTEN instructions that go to every agent that
     stipulates what they can do and should do, scheduling, contact
    information, etc.  A HIGHLY confidential document that should be
    guarded carefully.

7.  CP or Command Post- Base of operations, usually a spare room 
     at venue or a separate hotel room at lodging. Contains communications
    maps, comfort items and safety items.

8. Secure Area- Becomes secure ONLY after it has been searched 
   for electronics, physical, and EOD ( bombs ).  Only remains secure
   as long as it is guarded and access restricted.  If it becomes un-guarded
   for ANY amount of time it is then UN-SECURE and needs to be swept
   again.  Same goes for motor vehicles and corporate aircraft.

9.  P.I./  Protective Intelligence Advance Person- Responsible for all 
intelligence
relating to site visits and travel.  Must keep on top of the local news, 
open source
intelligence information, and information from Embassy personnel while
overseas.
Keeps track of known threats, works with investigative personnel.

10.  CPA or Chief Protective Agent- Detail leader,directly in charge of the
protectee's safety and mobility.  Closest agent to the protectee.

11.  PI Car- Site arrival car to secure area prior to arrival of protectee.
