= = You cannot stop a determined individual from completing an
attack no matter if you are armed or not.

The average attack lasts 2.5 seconds and there is something
like 3-5 shots fired.

In my "hands-on" classes, I demonstrate this to students. I take
2 students from the general class, I designate myself as the protectee,
one as a bystander, and one as the attacker. Using dummy weapons,
and WITH the knowledge that an attack will occur, and WHO the
attacker is.. in 3 OUT OF 3 attempts, the attacker is successful in
completing the ENTIRE attack, before the PSA can even clear
leather or bring ANY other weapon into play.

My point is that YES it is nice to have a firearm, but if you are solo
or working in a two person team in a jurisdiction OTHER than your
own, you will MOST LIKELY NOT have a firearm immediately
available for defensive action. I ALWAYS hire local licensed
talent so I have SOMEONE with a backup weapon, but in the
REAL WORLD ( and practice this at home without the weapon
just your finger ) You WILL NOT stop a close-in attack with
your own weapon. I challenge anyone to this- face-to-face.

In some international jurisdictions, it is more hassle than it is
worth to carry a firearm. ( I am talking about low-level threats,
and not terrorists after you, etc). I almost always convince the
protectee to pay for an additional armed local presence, but
I make sure they are properly trained and ( preferably ) IAPPS
certified. In my operations the backup car & personnel carry
firearms and other defensive weapons when I am unable.

You will only be effective if you employ cover and deflection
tactics, and you have to be trained to re-act IMMEDIATELY
to a threat, you can't think about it, it has to be "programmed'
into you.
