Connecticut Legislature has initiated a Bill, HJR 29 calling for a
Constitutional COnvention for the purpose of ammending the US Constitution
by adding a Balanced Budget Ammendment.

While this seems nice on the surface, it allows our Congress to examine and
change *ANY PART* of our United States Constitution! Congress has the
permission of 32 of the required 34 states who have ratified state Bills
calling for the Con-Con. However three states have withdrawn their call. The
following is a list of the states and their status; unlisted states have not
ratified a call for a Con-Con and are the current battle grounds for this
"call".

Your Help in distributing this data is needed. Also, your parties help in
blocking it is necessary. I hope it is not necessary to explain why we *MUST*
block this in Connecticut, but among the reasons are the loss of our right
to keep and bear arms. As you know, the Congress tried to ammend the second
ammendment last year. Although it did not work out, they will be able to make
*any changes* they want to our US Constitution if they get the two-thirds
majority from the states!

We must all write out Senators and Representatives, both at the State and
Congressional level, and tell them we are opposed to *ANY CON-CON*!! If we
agree to more gun control, then let them know that *laws* must be changed and
not the Constitution, to better control crime. I do not own or have weapons
in my house, yet I believe firmly, that law abiding citizens *MUST* have the
right to own and use such weapons.

As far as the Balanced Budget Proposals. A Balanced Budget must be
accomplished with a change in spending Caps and by Law, not by changing the
Constitution! Those who are pushing for a Constitutional Convention are
trying to decieve the people with any excuse the public will buy. Some are
claiming that we must have Term Limits set by the Constitution! Don't be
decieved, any changes we need are met easily by enacting a new law, changing
the Constitution is not required!

In 1987 when withdrawl bills seemed likely to pass in Idaho, Utah, Nevada,
Georgia, Florida, North arolina, and South Carolina, Republican congressmen
and Senators were found lobbying against these state resolutions at home,
absent from important sessions in Washington. In 1988, ALabama and Florida
won their withdrawl of the Co-Con call. Louisiana withdrew their call in
1990. In 1989, Nevada legislature expunged its convention call, concluding
it was induced by fraud. They, as were all of the 32 states who ratified
Bills calling for a Con-Con, were told that the constitutional convention
could be limited to a single subject, "The Balanced Budget Ammendment". It
was for this reason and for the reason of Limitation of Terms which has also
been used widely as a purpose for the convention, that the Con-Con is
currently being promoted by the news media and our legislators. Don't be
fooled into believeing what they claim to be the sole reason for the CON-CON.

Nor should you believe that our Congress would not modify other portions of
the Constitution, because our Congress has specifically rejected the idea of
a Balanced Budget during its last session!
So, what would be the real purpose of having a CON-CON? Once this convention
starts, the entire constitution can and will be rewritten, without public
consent or influence. The very basis for our society would be ruined and our
freedoms stripped from us by our government.

For those people living in states that have ratified the call for a CON-CON,
just as three states have withdrawn their call, you can force a withdrawl by
writing your state Representatives and Senators. I encourage you to write
each of them, telling them you do not want a CON-CON, and you feel the US
Constitution does not need to be rewritten. Tell them you want a Bill
introduced in the current or next legislative session for the purpose of
withdrawing your states call for a CON-CON.

If you know your state is in the midst of this battle, with a Bill impending,
calling for a Con-Con, please write your representatives and let them know
you do not want the Con-Con, VOTE NO for CON-CON!

The essence of freedom is the limitation of government!
