                          NRA COPS OUT


On the afternoon of 3/14/89 NRA issued an anti-gun press release
from President Warren Cassidy's office COMMENDING the action of
the Secretary of Treasury to "temporarily" ban the importation of
foreign manufactured semi-automatic rifles.  NRA claimed that
this action would provide a better climate for the debate about
whether semi-auto rifles have a "sporting use."

NFA Director Linda Farmer (Georgia) calls for the IMMEDIATE
resignation of NRA President Warren Cassidy.  Seconded by NFA
Directors Paige Massey and Guy Putnam (Austin).
