This data is from the 1986 Uniform Crime Report by the FBI
in the publication:      Crime in the United States, 1986.

The following statistics apply to the crime of murder.  Murder is defined as
follows: "willful (nonnegligent) killing of one human being by another."

The classification is based solely on police investigations as opposed to the
determination by a court, medical examiner, coroner, jury, or other judicial
body.  Not included in the count for this offense classification are deaths
caused by negligence, suicide, or accident; justifiable homicides; and
attempts to murder or assaults to murder, which are scored as aggravated
assaults.
