Hi John,

     As I remember, (sometimes not the best) :-) the 223 and the 308 can
     be stopped by a depth of 24 to 36 inches of sandbags.  Pistol ammo
     won't even get that deep.  Now, when you get into the higher
     powered rifle ammo you will need correspondingly deeper layers of
     sandbags.  I must have taken that fortification manual to the shed.
     I recall a depth of 48 inches for 50 cal.  I might be wrong, but
     that's nothing new.  :-)  Most of the gangs would probably be armed
     with the standard types of ammo in pistol or rifle.  I doubt if any
     would have access to large caliber weaponry.  The sandbags would do
     well against "cocktails" unless the "cocktail" actually broke
     against the sandbags, then the fuel might soak into the sand and
     burn longer in that one area.  This might weaken the sandbag
     defenses, but not by much.  At the rifle range, they only sieve the
     top 24 inches for the lead bullets to recast the lead.  Remember,
     the riots were a media event in the first place.  Just as the media
     is getting bored in Waco and pushing for the FBI and BATF to do
     something.  Even if it's wrong.  They just want a story so to
     better manipulate the populance.
