1/1/93 JANUARY 1, 1993 TO:RUDY WB5UUK FROM: ROGER WB0GAI RE: 9600 BAUD MODS DEAR RUDY, THIS LAST YEAR I MODIFIED MY YEASU 726R TO WORK WITH THE AEA DSP-2232 FOR 9600 BAUD. I HAVE BEEN USING IT FOR SEVERAL MONTHS WITH GOOD SUCCESS. I FOUND THAT ON RECEIVE, THAT HOOKING DIRECTLY TO THE ANODE OF DIODE D04 ON THE RX UNIT THAT I HAVE VERY GOOD RESULTS. ON THE SAT UNIT I FOUND THAT LOCATION C25 ON THE + TERMINAL I WAS ABLE TO GET AN OPTIMUM SIGNAL INTO THE SATELLITES. OF COURSE I USED SHIELDED CABLE AND GROUNDED EVERYTHING CAREFULLY. PTT IS THE SAME AS ALWAYS, AT THE BACK OF THE RADIO AND AT THE MIC CONNECTOR. THAT IS ABOUT IT. IT TOOK AWHILE. ONE THING TO EMPHASIZE IS THE IMPORT- ANCE OF HOOKING THE TRANSMIT CONNECTIONS TO THE SAT UNIT AND NOT TO THE TX UNIT. WHEN YOU GO INTO THE SAT UNIT THE TX UNIT IS OUT OF THE LOOP MORE OR LESS. 73'S AND GOOD LUCK, DE ROGER WB0GAI 7/16/92 From : ve1hd To : g6zru Title : 9600.hlp Keywords : your request Uploader : VE1HD Uploaded : Tue Jul 14 15:27:29 1992 __________________________ Hi there Fred, the handle here is Clarence and the QTH is near Sydney Nova Scotia. I saw your request for help with 9600 baud on the FT-726, that is what I use here with a PacComm external 9600 baud modem and it works well or at least I think it does. I have only been on the high speed bird for about a week now. The following info was sent to me some time ago by one of the chaps stateside and it seems he obtained it from one of the chaps in JA land. I did the mod exactly as it is described, the only thing extra I did was to add a small relay to automatically switch to between Satellite and Simplex, I key the relay from the 8v line that gets switched by the satellite switch when you select either of the satellite modes. I picked up this voltage on Pin 6 of plug J05 on the satellite board. I used a small 5v SPDT, TTL compatible relay with a 47 ohm resistor in series with the coil and it works fine. The TX audio is wired to the common, the TX module modulator to the normally closed and the Sat module modulator to the normally open and it works fine. I used small sheilded wire and mounted the relay with a small piece of double sided tape. The following is the info on where to pick up the RX and TX audio in the radio. The following was received from JA6FTL, I have not yet got around to doing it. ======================================================================== Hello Tom, My mods to FT-726 is as follow. 1. RX data connection RX signal is drawed from the junction R44-DO4(1S188) with 10K ohm resistor. It must be connected to RX in of G3RUH modem 2. TX data injection You must inject both TX unit and Satellite unit if you need full duplex operation ( example for uosat4/5 ). The TX data injection point is DO5(FC-53)-C27 in TX unit and DO6(Fc-53)-C25 in SAT unit. You may be able to direct connect from TXD out of G3RUH modem as DC decoupling is in the modem board. 3. You need selection SW for TXD injection to select sinplex/full duplex operation. 73s. sueo @ uo-14, ao-16, lo-19, FO-20 ========================================================================= 73 Tom K8TL That was the info received from Tom K8TL. Hope it works for you and all the best from Clarence ... VE1HD -=> 3/10/91 FT726.1 de ON4KVI @ LX0PAC To improve the Auto-doppler control on my 726R which has 20hz steps, I installed a 555 multivibrator circuit across the tuning switch which shorts the line 2 times a second. It now pulls the circuit into tune from 300 hz either side. W9ODI
