UK security 'expert' cracked?

Paul Smith, 29, a creator of Access Denied, was denied a mortgage at his
local bank, so he tells the press that he was cracked. Gen Technology,
his employer, had issued a challenge on the Internet defying people to
break into a computer network protected by its Access Denied system.
When the crackers couldn't get in they became upset and verbally
threatened Mr. Smith, so says this article. He later found "six default
notices and a County Court judgment to the financial records". No
confirmation from the bank is listed here, I am sure they would be
rather upset about being broken into. As a matter of fact this article
has no confirmation whatsoever, it reads like one big advertisement for

DIVX, the pay per view DVD format touted by Circuit City, may have been
cracked. DIVX Hack is supposedly a box that intercepts the telephone
calls your DIVX box makes to fool the box into thinking that your
account has been debited. This allows you to watch DIVX movies over and
over again for free. DIVX Hack is being sold for $150. The question is
does it work?

Chronicle is a utility by the Rhino9 Security Research Team that will
determine the current service pack/hotfix level of all WinNT machines in
your NT domain. There are some bugs, but this is a great tool for any NT
network administrator. Like most Rhino9 releases, the source code is
available for download.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics was cracked last week. The BLS reports on
statistics that drive the global economy markets. How can they allow
such a low level of security? How can anyone trust any data posted to
their machines now? An economic terrorist could just change a few
numbers and put the worlds economy into a spin.

The folks over at interave.net seem to be sponsoring a 'hacker contest'
asking people to break into one of their machines. Not sure if you
actually get anything other than the glory but it may be worth a look
see.

Iowa State University feels that the meteorological data collected on
one of its servers is of primary interest to some unknown crackers. They
are actively seeking the crackers who appear to be coming from outside
ISU.

there has been to much focus on NASA systems recently they went after
the Navy.

them all and archive their pages.)
