Underground goes mainstream

InfoWorld has named three underground products as 'InfoWorld Products of
the Year' in the 'Golden Guardian Category' They have honored OpenBSD,
nmap, and L0phtCrack as security products of the year. While all three
products are arguably underground none of them have major million dollar
companies behind them and all three are written by true hackers.

A bill that will restrict the monitoring of various radio frequencies
has been passed by The House commerce committee. The purpose of the
bill is said to protect personal privacy by preventing the eavesdropping
of pagers and cellar phone conversations. However depending on how the
wording is interpreted it could also mean the end to listening to police
band and other emergency-service transmissions.

for the first time at the regular monthly meeting of cypherpunks in
Oakland, California on February 13th.

For those that missed it 20/20 on ABC aired a show on February 10th
about HERF (High Energy Radio Frequency) guns. While the show was high
in FUD it was low in actual facts or solutions. The demonstrations shown
where only done from a few feet away and where not very convincing.

The second Air Force Cadet in as many weeks has been nabbed. This one
accused of posting "vulgar and disrespectful" messages on an
underground cadet Internet site. (Underground cadet internet site?
Guess it wasn't too underground.)

The recent Nintendo Emulator that has caused Sony to file suit and has
created a lot of press is nothing more than a fake. Programmers have
claimed that it is only a decompile of the original application and a
pretty bad one at that.
