New York Diamond Dealer Charged with Hijacking Truck

US federal authorities have charged 12 men – amongst them a New York diamond dealer - with conspiracy in a December 2007 hijacking of a delivery truck containing several million dollars worth of diamonds.

The diamond trader is Brian Greenwald, President of Doppelt and Greenwald Diamonds.

 

   

 

 

 

 

 

 

Greenwalt Hijacked A Fed-Ex Truck

On December 20, 2007, involved two men displaying police badges and firearms who approached a FedEx truck in Manhattan. They removed the driver, who was handcuffed and kidnapped at gunpoint. The truck was then driven to a loading dock in New York, but the perpetrators were reportedly unable to unload the contents – reportedly millions of dollars worth of diamonds - and later abandoned the truck with all of its contents intact.


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

FBI Busts Ring Of Jewel Thieves

FBI agents observed two of the defendants, Hector Rivera and Roni Amrussi, scoping out a warehouse on Long Island as a site to offload the diamonds on the hijacked truck. Rivera, according to a witness who was secretly working with the FBI, was described as someone who works for people "who employ him to collect debts, including debts involving diamonds." Greenwald's 2005 Heist

In the 2005 heist, Greenwald had thieves hold up his own store on Fifth Ave at gunpoint. Five employees with plastic handcuffs before running off with loose jewels tossed into duffel bags.
