Judge Andrea Humer decreed that Fritzl would serve his life sentence in a secure psychiatric facility, as recommended by doctors, rather than a prison. 8

Convicted Of 3,000 Rapes

Fritzl was convicted of homicide, rape, incest and other charges Thursday. He was sentenced to life in a psychiatric ward for enslaving his daughter Elisabeth, raping her more than 3,000 times over 24 years, fathering her seven children, and letting a newborn son die in captivity. The baby cried for 65 hours.

A Kosher Country Club

The prison offers inmates meditation, tennis, football and darts and even has a state-of-the-art gym. Activities include singing and cookery lessons. 6

Yenta Psychiatrist

During the trial, psychiatrist Adelheid Kastner told the court that Fritzl had a serious personality disorder and would pose a threat to others if freed.

Kastner told the jury that locking him up without therapy and treatment could be dangerous, and that there was a real risk he would try to take his own life.
