Killed Leaving An Exclusive Mall

On March 23, 2007, in the early afternoon, Randi's Gorenberg went to this exclusive Palm Beach mall. An hour later she was laying on an access road to a busy park, shot in the temple.

Palm Beach Detectives Puzzled

Randi, a mother of two grown children, a wife to a successful chiropractor, and daughter and sister, was murdered by an unknown assailant. Palm Beach County detectives are trying to piece together the puzzle. "The hardest part is not having a motive," said Palm Beach County Homicide Detective Chris Karpinski.

She Left The Mall
On the surveillance video, you can see Randi leave the mall and stop briefly where she is checking her cell phone. From there, she walks out of camera angle and there are no other mall surveillance cameras that capture her in the parking lot.

Police believe she got into her vehicle, a black 2007 Mercedes GL450 SUV, but cops aren't sure if she was carjacked or approached by assailants at that time.

At A Nearby City Park

While driving along an access road at the South County Civic Center, witnesses hear a gunshot from the black Mercedes.

Shortly afterward,  witness told police that Randi's body is thrown from the SUV onto the northbound lane of the access road at about 1:54 p.m. This is right across from her favorite coffee shop.

She Wound Up At A Community Park

Someone put a gun to her head, shot her in the temple, pushed her out into a parking lot, and calmly drove away. They left her $25,000 ring on her finger. The car was found two miles away.

Dumped The Car

The car was found two miles away at the rear of a home depot. Detectives were curious as to how the killers knew there were no cameras there.

Daniel Gorenberg

Her 25 yr old son, was arrested Monday at a Walgreens in Delray Beach after he allegedly tried to pick up an order of Xanax. Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office detectives are very distrubed with Gorenberg and his father, for their lack of cooperation.

Dr. Stewart Gorenberg

Detectives want Stweart, a Lauderdale-based chiropractorto, be more helpful in the homicide investigation. Neither has been willing to sit down with detectives and answer more questions about their whereabouts on the day of the slaying.

Police Angry

In the weeks following Gorenberg's death, sheriff's investigators expressed frustration with her family, citing a lack of cooperation. They refuse interviews, and dealt through their attorney, Afbe Fronstein. Neither Stewart Gorenberg nor his son has sat for a formal interview with detectives.

We can't 100 percent rule out that they didn't have any involvement.

Sheriff's investigators said Daniel Gorenberg, whom family members say struggled with substance abuse in the past, lied about his alibi on the day his mother was killed.

Gorenberg's Lawyer

The son, Daniel Gorenberg, was arrested for a controlled substance. Attorney Fronstein, called the officer and told him "not to question his client anymore."

Randi's Brother Is Suspicious

Randi Gorenberg's brother, Jerry Malitz, says, "I'm frustrated both by the seemingly lack of progress and them seemingly not being as forthcoming with the family as they were the first week."

Sheriff Won't Let Family See Evidence

The Sheriff's won't allow the family members to see surveillance tapes. McAfee said the video was not handed over because his agency didn't want a family member reviewing it, a potential for a conflict in court if an arrest is make.

Nothing Makes Sense

If she was carjacked, then her assailant is going away for ten years, and since he shot her, it's probably life. Why kill her, and on a public street? This women had moxie, and she quickly would have said - "My husband will pay you $50,000, and you can keep the car, it is insured."

Killing her in a public area, and dumping the car two miles away, probably means there was a second person in a car waiting.
