My research costs money. So does my life. This column simply doesn't pay enough, so sometimes I have to do other things. Sorry it threw my schedule off this week. I will get back to LIDA, I promise. It's a fascinating story and throws much light on current technology. But you're just going to have to wait.

In the meantime, you can help finance my research (and my plush retirement villa on the scenic shore of beautiful Lake Steadman). Here's the plan:

You send me 10 bucks and I'll send you a copy of my sordid, colorful, and relatively candid memoirs as a PDF file attached to an e-mail. It's called Crude But Effective. It's a hell of a read. Buy it today. You'll be glad you did.

Here's a free sample:

Plan B:

Or you can send me 15 bucks plus $3.50 for postage and handling and I'll send you a hard copy by snail mail.

Make the check or money order payable to:

Bound Together Book Store

Mailing address:

Attn./Tom

Bound Together Books

1369 Haight St.

San Francisco, CA 19117

Allow a reasonable amount of time for delivery.

This exiting offer is mail order only. Don't walk into the store and ask for a copy. I haven't printed any. I don't intend to print any until I already have your money in my hot little hand. I can't afford to, not on my salary, not unless I quit this job and take up something more lucrative, like picking lettuce or begging in the street. And I'm not going to do that. I like it here. Where else can you find Ralph Nader and Mistress Marisha on the same page?

And no, my "real" name isn't Tom; it's Bigfoot. Tom is somebody else.
