HEY, GUYS! WHAT ARE WE TALKING ABOUT?
An open paper by Ingo Swann

Well, with all the fuss over remote viewing going on in the news and media, perhaps I should talk of some of RV's other aspects which lurk behind the over-hyped government connections. Perhaps a few would like to know about those aspects.

It strikes me first of all that there is the matter of nomenclature. A great many frames of reference have radically changed since the 1970s when RV first came about.

The functions of society are NOW verging on shifting permanently from the elder generations to the younger ones coming up. The younger generations think in different contexts. They have to because the world of the 1970s is not the world of 1995 and clearly will not be the world of 2008.

But I predict that remote viewing will be important as of 2008 - because other nations are in the process of researching its aspects. What falls out of that research doubtlessly will be utilized to their advantages.

Concepts such as "psychic", "out-of-body perceptions", "ESP", "clairvoyance" and "remote viewing" were still widely used twenty years ago. Those terms have now fallen out of fashion, and the younger generations really have no idea what they referred to.

The Situations and Problems (S&Ps) represented by those terms, however, have not fallen from view. Indeed, they have taken on new and vital luminosity, but under neo-nomenclature and concepts. Basically there are three of them:

Although Virtual Reality has been given a strong technological twist, its S&Ps closely resemble those of what used to be called "the Psychic Realms". In any event, one is said to enter or access virtual reality in which all information is possible. In the past, shamans, psychics and clairvoyants were also said to enter or access "the Psychic Realms" in which all information was possible. The basic contexts of "Virtual Reality" and "the Psychic Realms" are thus at least similar, and both contexts share similar S&Ps. The different nomenclature, however, divides the similar contexts into an obsolete past and a neo-Now. But there is a very close similarity between them in that Entering or Accessing either virtual reality or the psychic realms involves the existence of human faculties which effect the entering or accessing.

In the past, psychics often thought of themselves as "WIRED" into cross-dimensions, alternative realities and levels of consciousness. All of these concepts were in existence by the early 1920s. When the first computers were invented during the early 1950s, their mechanisms and performance were an ideal analogy to psychic mechanisms and performance.

Analog computer processes then became the first analogy for virtual reality, but it emerged detached from the analogy for the mechanisms and performance of psychic reality.

The basic reason for this detachment was that the 1950s concept of Cybernetics (mind-machine interfacing) distanced itself from psychic reality. The contexts of psychic reality then were dropped out of the new models coming up.

The new models of
Information interfacing then reconstituted the S&Ps familiar to psychic performance into S&Ps thought to be unique to virtual reality in which all information is possible.

The concept of being wired has since undergone several evolutionary steps within the virtual reality concepts -- until, as it is said, one can be "wired into the Universe". But past psychics used to say much the same -- althought they didn't refer to the "universal virtual reality" wiring, but rather to "accessing the Universal Akashic Records."

The entire history of psychical research and parapsychology will become instantly intelligible if one replaces the old terms of "psychic", etc. with the new ones of "virtual reality", "cross-dimensional wiring", and "levels of consciousness".

But there is one difficulty. The concepts of virtual reality and cross-dimensional wiring are often presented merely as forms of entertainment and speculation. Psychics, especially shamans, have always held that the psychic realms were real - virtually real.

Remote Viewing is a form of virtual reality travelling, or a form of "being wired".

In a more-or-less sense, then:
