"Psychic Espionage"
a review by Lyn Buchanan

ABC's "SIGHTINGS" program aired a 7 minute segment during the week of Feb. 12, 1996, entitled "Psychic Espionage". Featured were interviews with investigative journalist and author, Jim Marrs; President of PsiTech, Ed Dames; developer of CRV, Ingo Swann; and PsiTech-trained CRVer, Patti Drier.

Patti Drier was shown working a CRV session, and brief glimpses of her session transcripts were shown as well. The segment did Ms. Drier a possible disservice: while she was specifically introduced as a PsiTech student, it did not make clear that she was not a part of the governmental/military project. It first showed her working without giving her name while the narration spoke of government-trained CRVers and how they must remain annonymous.

The CRV process was introduced as developing from a reaction to the Russian's already successful efforts to use psychics for espionage purposes. Success rates were discussed: Ingo Swann stating the requirement to train his students to a minimum success rate of 85% success 85% of the time, in order to remain competitive and receive continued funding. The history of the project was tracked from the initial Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) effort, through transfer to the US Army Intelligence and Security Command (USA INSCOM), to the final transfer to the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). The project's subsequent degredation in performance quality and final demise was said to have been brought about by the change in leadership involved with that final transfer and DIA's use of non-CRV psychic personnel.

The segment centered around the military uses of CRV and the CIA's, INSCOM's and DIA's applications. Instances of uses were given to include participation in the Iran Hostage crisis, the abduction in Italy of General Dozier, intelligence collection targeting against subs, sattelites, bio-and chemical warfare sites, missile sites, drug trafficking, and detection of "moles" (foreign secret agents). It also made reference to other branches of the US government and military which called on the services of the unit.

The segment ended with a reference to the CIA's initial statement concerning CRV. Jim Marrs addressed some of the basic doubts about and reasons for the material contained in that statement.
