A few Americans are becoming aware of the phenomenon that is becoming more pronounced in American politics. It seems that no matter who gets elected, things continue in their downward progression in the way that they always have, with the exception that things are in a much worse condition now. If the U.S. has a representative form of government, why don't the voters elect new representatives who will help the country?
One answer to that question is that voters do not know what they want. They get their opinions about things from their television sets and newspapers, and their minds are filled with a confusing mix of ideas and rhetoric. For a politician to get elected, he or she must generally give assent to a vast array of conflicting beliefs and ideas in order to gather the most votes from a divided electorate. The partisan squabbling and bickering in Washington is a reflection of a nation that has lost touch with reality.
For the most part, representatives do what their electorate demands of them and seem to pay close attention to the opinion polls. The majority of public opinion is very fickle, however, changing like the direction of the wind with politicians' convictions changing accordingly.
A few very rich and powerful men own the major news sources and generally control the flow of information. These men are aliens to national thought and culture since they are internationalist in thinking. Americans are unconcerned by this because they look at life much like the farm animals do. As long as they are fed and free to make babies, they are not concerned that their lives are not real. Americans are content to have their opinions fed to them like cattle in a feedlot. This very idea is the great theme projected in the movie industry as it pictures space aliens taking over the minds of the human population or snatching their bodies. While it strikes fear in the cinema, there seems to be no concern at all when the souls of men are being snatched away and formed into the image of the alien as truly as any graphic image at the theater.
Of the modern democratic process, Aldous Huxley wrote in The Devils of Loudun, (1952): "Assemble a mob of men and women previously conditioned by a daily reading of newspapers; treat them to amplified band music, bright lights...and in next to no time you can reduce them to a state of almost mindless subhumanity. Never before have so few been in a position to make fools, maniacs or criminals of so many." This happens every four years when the two official political parties in America have their conventions.
Every now and then, maybe more frequently than we know, our representatives in Washington have to openly defy their electorate. Sometimes they say things like, "I have to vote my conscience on this one", or they offer some other justification, but the truth is they are merely serving their own interests.
An example of how this happens may be found in the GATT treaty that was ratified by Congress near the end of '94. A major voting block made up of labor unions was vehemently opposed to GATT, as was 80% of voters in general, according to opinion polls. But the lame duck House of Representatives rammed it through ratification, as did the Senate with the aid of Senator Bob Dole.
The reason GATT was ratified, even though most Americans didn't want it, is because it was being pushed by the same group of wealthy and powerful individuals who control the media. Rush Limbaugh refused to run ads by Patrick Buchanan and Phyllis Schlafly criticizing GATT and the World Trade Organization (WTO). While the treaty was in the Senate Commerce Committee on November 15, 1994, Felix Rohatyn of the Lazard Brothers International Banking Firm testified that there would be dire economic consequences if GATT did not pass - a veiled threat from the true powers that be. Just before the Senate vote on the GATT, Commerce Committee chairman, Ernest Hollings, remarked, "This GATT agreement is being pushed by David Rockefeller and the Trilateral Commission." Senator Hollings may have regretted his frankness later on.
Another example of legislative "independence" is the issue of American troops in Yugoslavia. During the Senate debate on troop deployment, Senator Dianne Feinstein stated that she would vote in favor of the deployment even though calls to her office were ten to one against sending troops there. This is a striking example of how little the voters' opinions matter when the wishes of the ruling elite are brought to bear.
During the Dayton Accords on Bosnia, Chuck Asay published a cartoon showing the participants sitting around a table with Secretary of State, Warren Christopher, saying, "Good...it looks like we're all here". A chair marked "U.S. public consensus" is shown as empty. U.S. troops were deployed in Europe over the objections of U.S. voters.
While we may be certain that our representatives in government are voting with their own interests in mind, we may be just as certain that the interests of elected officials and their electorate are converging with much less frequency than they used to. For many years politicians would vote according to the desires of their electorate with the hopes of being reelected for another term, or for gaining a higher office. In recent years, politicians have voted more and more according to the interests of an invisible ruling class with the hopes of securing their future in the realms of the world's corporate and banking elite, or for gaining patronage appointments from future presidents placed in power by this invisible government.
This form of government is called a "plutocracy" or "pluto-democracy". Webster defines this as a "group of wealthy people who control government." This group of individuals may also be called an "oligarchy", which means "government in which a few persons have the ruling power." These descriptions define the present American form of government.
Woodrow Wilson was elected with the generous backing of the Rockefeller - Carnegie - Morgan money trusts of his day who used him to get the Federal Reserve Banking Act passed, as well as push the country into World War I and the subsequent League of Nations. Wilson's national campaign vice-chairman, William McAdoo (who Wilson would later appoint Secretary of the Treasury), recognized the forces at work behind the Wilson campaign and would later write in Crowed Years, (1974), "The fact is that there is a serious danger of this country becoming a pluto-democracy; that is, a sham republic with the real government in the hands of a small clique of enormously wealthy men, who speak through their money, and whose influence, even today, radiates to every corner of the United States."
This oligarchy works its will by pumping large amounts of money into both official political parties in the U.S. Politicians dip into this so-called "soft money" and, by the time they are elected, they are owned lock, stock and barrel by the monied elite. If one party is defeated by another, as the Democrats were defeated by the Republicans in the '94 congressional elections, the "lame duck" politicians will ram through any legislation (such as GATT) that is sure to win their favor with the interlocking sectors of multi-national corporations and international banking. To be in the good graces of these sectors guarantees one a position on the board of a major bank, stock brokerage firm or corporation, a major university, a major television network, one of the private foundations funded by the Carnegie/Rockefeller trusts, a cushy job consulting or lobbying, or one of the many, varied and well salaried career positions high up in the federal government.
We should shelve our ideas about the poor defeated senators or congressmen standing in the unemployment line, because if they serve their true masters well, they will continue using their abilities in the service of the invisible government. Thus, we have what was well described by U.S. President, Rutherford B. Hayes, when he said, "This is a government of the people, by the people and for the people no longer. It is a government of corporations, by corporations and for corporations."
President Bill Clinton, who is a member of the Trilateral Commission, is a devotee of this collusive culture. His reelection was the most farcical of all elections in that the media effectively squelched the issues out of the campaign and presented voters with a choice between a nice young man and a grouchy old man. In spite of his obvious lack of character and conviction, Clinton was reelected to another term in the White House where he will continue to surrender the last vestiges of American sovereignty, nationhood and constitutional integrity to the emerging world super-government run by the international money elite.
The President is a Rhodes scholar, as are many of those he has appointed to positions in government. Christopher Hitchens, a socialist friend of Clinton's from Oxford University, was quoted in The Nation (12-14-92) as saying, "A Rhodesian formation imparts a definite sense of knowing what is best...for others. I have helped bestow a patina of refinement on the raw exercise of power, and have shaped the contours of the permanent party of government as it exists in law, lobbying, business, intelligence, diplomacy and the military." Bill Clinton is president simply because he has mastered that "patina of refinement" of power - the velvet glove over the iron fist - and is adept at projecting the image of someone who "knows what's best" without a awakening the fears of "Big Brother" in the American masses.
The image of the American president is something that is carefully manufactured by the illusion makers in the national media establishment. George Bush's father was a director on the board of CBS and arranged for the credit to allow William Paley to buy CBS outright. Paley hired Sigmund Freud's nephew, Edward Bernays, as his chief adviser. In 1928, the same year Paley started CBS, Bernays wrote Propaganda, in which he revealed that:
Those who manipulate the organized habits and opinions of the masses constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of the country....It remains a fact that in almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by a relatively small number of persons....It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind, who harness old social forces and contrive new ways to bind and guide the world....As civilization has become more complex, and as the need for invisible government has been increasingly demonstrated, the technical means have been invented and developed by which opinion may by regimented.
The present-day socialist dictatorship is now presenting itself as the only solution to the world's crisis - a crisis they planned and precipitated over the past century. They have created both the poison and the antidote in the same laboratory, and their salvation is the only reasonable solution for a world that has forgotten God and sold its soul to the World Bank. While God made man in His image, aliens have snatched them away while they slept.
