With the world applauding, the U.S. has once again intervened in the internal affairs of another sovereign nation.
In a somber speech to his country, President Saddam Hussein condemned the recent attack on Iraq by the United States. "Once again the hopeless cowardly Americans were back to repeat their cowardly act", he said, "hiding behind a technological advance which God will cause to be their curse and cause for shame. September 3 will be a day when the aggressors will be condemned by both history and the world."
Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz said Iraq did nothing wrong: "We provided logistical support" to a Kurdish faction under attack, "so what we did was a responsible limited operation to help our people."
While not all of the internal actions of the Iraqi government may be defensible, has their latest move warranted this or any response from the United States? Do we punish Saddam by killing more Iraqi civilians, or by withholding the food and medicine so desperately needed by the people of that country? Saddam is correct in his assessment of the character of the United States in this action.
When one has the United Nations and the arsenal of the world at his disposal, it may be an easy matter to strike out at a small country which cannot possibly defend itself effectively or retaliate against the U.S. or the UN, but this is not courage nor is it leadership. One must ask what the real agenda is behind all the firepower, censure, and condemnation aimed at this country. Consider its recent history.
* August, 1990- The United Nations imposed economic and trade sanctions which have devastated its economy.
* August, 1992- No-fly zone established by the UN, restricting Iraq's use of its air space and allowing the U.S. and its allies access to patrol Iraqi skies within the country.
* June, 1993- Washington claimed Iraq was behind the plot to assassinate George Bush while visiting in Kuwait. In retaliation, U.S. warships fired 24 Tomahawk Cruise Missiles at the Iraqi intelligence headquarters in Baghdad, killing 8 in the attack.
* September 3, 1996- U.S. attacked Iraq with missiles in retaliation for what it called "aggression" against a minority group within the country.
* September 4, 1996- U.S. enlarges no-fly zone within Iraq, allowing U.S. and allied planes access to patrol within 30 miles of Baghdad, and, further restricting Iraqi air force planes within their own country.
When one has a "world agenda" and a nation in that world has not submitted to the agenda, it is not a difficult decision to reach across the chess board and rearrange the pawns to suit the agenda. This is a game which has been played out repeatedly with the nations of the world from the beginning of this century to its close.
These changes have come about gradually and covertly under the benevolent guise of the establishment of world peace. The power which has been deceiving the nations of the world with its peace accords and peace keepers is referred to in scripture. Daniel 8:25 reveals his tactics, "And through his policy he shall cause trickery to prosper in his hand: he shall magnify himself in his heart and mind, and THROUGH PEACE HE SHALL CORRUPT AND DESTROY MANY. He shall also stand up agains the Prince of princes, but he shall be broken, and that by no [human] hand."
