End of the week wrapup.
Apple confirmed a problem with some of their iPods. Some of the machines remain in sleep mode when their batteries get low. Apple posted a fix and that should remedy the problem. If not,see http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/.

Live365 is still down. They say that it is due to reasons that the provider that they were using was not providing sufficient bandwidth. When CNET tried to reach them, they had no comment. Sounds kinda fishy to me. Not enough bandwidth, why close up shop entirely. They do have paid radio content providers. Do they get some sort of a refund for downtime? Why can't they find more bandwidth, it's not like UUnet's phone number is unlisted. According to CNET's article: Cogent Communications, a national data telecom carrier that provides broadband services to Live365's ISP, said it shut down the unnamed service provider Monday.
"We have suspended service to their ISP for repeated violations of our acceptable use policy," said Cogent CEO David Schaeffer, citing "repeated spamming of material, some of which might be considered offensive."

No-HTML Plug in for Outlook. Whoo Hoo!
I was just reading on The Register about the new plugins avaiable for Outlook. It converts HTML to RTF and plain text. This is probably the coolest thing ever. It would stop a lot of virus incidents. It would create more of a standard again for email. It would also let me read everyones email in pine. Read more on the story here

Ximian's Evolution finally connects to Exchange, but there is a catch.
For those who do not know what Ximian is a desktop supporting Gnome on the X-windows desktop. Evolution was introduced about a year ago with the same functionality as Microsoft's Outlook with one thing missing. The ability to connect to Exchange the same was as Outlook. Well it's finally here but Ximian is charging for it. Most open source software companies would probably choke at the idea but in the case of Ximian, the proprietary package is Ximian Connector, which costs $69 for one user, $599 for 10 users or $1,499 for 25 and comes with 90 days of Web-based installation support. Ximian Connector will be available in January for Exchange 2000, said Jon Perr, vice president of marketing at Ximian. A version for Exchange 2000's widely used predecessor, Exchange 5.5, will be available in the first half of 2002, the company said.

The hype is a little gone but the IT/Ginger, here?
Ok, I was cruising the web again. I saw on our friends site, www.hacksec.com, that Dean Kamen has revealed the once talked about Ginger. He has told Time magazine that it is a personal conveyance device much like a scooter. I don't really find it all that interesting yet, I have a conveyance vehicle, it is a car. If you would like to find more about the IT/Ginger, you can find HackSec's write-up here or the original Time article here.
