When will tech layoffs stop. Boo! IBM
from AP News:

After months of layoff notices, I.B.M. disclosed yesterday that its job cuts would total 15,600, or 5 percent of its work force.

The figure, about 5,000 more than analysts had expected, appeared in documents filed yesterday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The International Business Machines Corporation reported cutting 14,213 jobs from global services, its largest unit, which provides a wide range of consulting and systems support services. In addition, I.B.M. trimmed smaller numbers of workers in its servers and software businesses, and 1,400 in its microelectronics division, which manufactures semiconductors.
