Something I heard on Tech TV
I know that a lot of the stories that are listed on here are caught on Tech TV but I do enjoy that channel. It is easy to catch news from them by listening to it in the background when I am doing other things. Anyway, they were discussing on how the goverment is trying to make the software they create private. Let me give you an example. Redhat is free software, not just free in price but free in the way the GPL states. I am allowed to modify RedHat but if I do, my software is also subject to the same rule. It has to be open for modification and distrobution. The government is saying, for security, they do not want to comply with the GPL. This is wrong because the GPL states differently and we also pay for the government to create. Double wrong. You can check out
OpenSecrets.org to see what is the largest computer software company who donates the most money to the government and find out possibly why this new policy is being put into effect.
