Real finally giving into open source
Cnet is reporting that the battle between Real/Microsoft/Apple is heating up with Real's new licensing. Real is offering the software under one of two licenses. The first is a modified GPL-type license. The second is a so-called community license, like what Sun uses with its Java programming language, under which developers are required to maintain compatibility with a set of application programming interfaces that come with the source code. Kevin Poulsen reports on Wireless Honeypots
War Driving might get a little risky again. It seems that a contractor Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) launched what might be the first organized wireless honeypot, designed to tempt unwary Wi Fi hackers and bandwidth borrowers and gather data on their techniques and tools of choice.
The SAIC honeypot went operational on June 15th, and so far hasn't pulled in anything particularly nefarious: a single ping sweep of the bait machines, and a few people trying unsuccessfully to surf the Web.

*Ding Ding* The fight is on!
I read on News.com about the newest threat to our own privacy and computers. It seems that from entertainment industry's anti-piracy push has triggered a bill introduced into the House of Representatives would allow copyright owners to legally hack into peer-to-peer networks and disable PCs used for illicit file trading.
The bill doesn't specify what techniques, such as viruses, worms, denial-of-service attacks and domain name hijacking, would be permissible. It does say that a copyright hacker should not delete files, but it limits the right of anyone subject to an intrusion to sue if files are accidentally erased.

Asteroid? But I will only be 48
Alot of news sources are talking about an asteroid that that could destroy all life on our planet. The news sources are reporting that it is the type of asteroid that probably wiped out the dinos 65 million years ago. NASA is working on a way to save our planet like you saw in all those made-for-tv movies, but by that time we will probably be so sick of living here that we will likely start building co-ops on Mars. They say don't worry, I say "Lets party like it's 2019". More

Me so sorry
News hasn't been updated as much as I would like due to the upcoming
Defcon, the
First Annual Defcon Cannonball Run and unpredicted busy stuff. El_Jefe did make it back from his journey so the Cannonball Run is ready to moveat full speed. Due to the bandwidth stats, I know a lot of you are very excited for it also.
Defcon is 5 days away and it is bound to be bigger than years before. I am a little sad from all the reports of the people that will not be there this year but I will be toasting wishes to see them soon.
