A note about NYC's smoking ban
I received this from my friend who is the owner of the Raven Cafe in NYC:
This just a reminder to all smokers out there. The hearing on the
proposed smoking ban in all NYC bars will be held
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 10TH,1PM
AT CITY HALL IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS.
THE ONLY WAY TO DEFEAT THIS BAN WILL BE A STRONG SHOWING OF PEOPLE.
IF YOU SMOKE, IF YOU'RE A BARTENDER OR OTHER BAR WORKER AND YOU SMOKE,
you need to show up at this hearing.
The city council needs to see alot of people or this thing will pass.
Please call the Speaker's office a few day in advance to confirm this
date. (212) 788-7210.

60 mins Hackers in Wonderland
21st century cowboys or criminals? As E-commerce booms, hackers are pursued by the law and by corporations as outlaws and as consultants for security systems. Hacking is becoming a career choice. Others turn to hacking as a form of electronic civil disobedience called 'hactivism'. Hear the voices of an unseen culture and explore the theories as to why hackers hack.

White house announces cyber terrorist threats?
As our great nation is gearing up for the was that won't start for months but only last minutes, the White House prepares torelease its cyberspace security plan today. News.com has several articals telling this. I just would like to know if I just stubled on to this on accident because the coverage on the news has been shakey at best. I saw a segment on FOX 11 LA and they had Steven Trilling on tape. His advice was anti-virus... etc. Anti-virus? Wake up, how about firewalling? No one thinks about running Tiny Firewall or Zone Alarm. Even my mom uses Zone Alarm. You think they would tell people more usefull things on the news. Tech TV even reports proper security between Max Headroom and the Thunderbirds. More
