Online Seminar:
Designing with TFT LCD Column Drivers, Dick McCartney, 7/30/02 This Seminar will present useful information to successfully design with TFT-LCD column rivers. The focus will be on methods and explanations not found in datasheets. This includes a discussion of asymmetric gamma curves, static and dynamic Vcom characteristics, content specific gamma, output offset issues and proper routing and layout of differential pairs.

Reading Assignment:
- RSDS interface is used between the Timing Controller and Column Drivers. When designing with RSDS, it is important to design with EMI considerations in mind. To evaluate EMI for RSDS interfaces, use the basic equation:
EMI ~ N * I * A * f^2 N = number of loops I = loop current a = loop area f = signal frequency
- To see more guidelines for designing the RSDS Bus Interface, read AN-1234, "RSDS Flat Panel Display Design Guidelines Part 1."
- To learn more about charge sharing, read AN-1235, "Using Smart Charge Sharing to Reduce Power and Boost Column Driver Performance."

Research Assignment:
Using the FPD33584 data sheet:
- What interface technology does this part use? check answer
- What two advantages does charge sharing give the FPD33584? check answer
- Which two timing configurations with this part support? check answer
- How many column drivers does this part contain? check answer
The FPD33584 provides direct drive for TFT-LCD displays.
- Does the FPD33584 need Vcom modulation? check answer
- What are the advantages of using direct drive? check answer
- What typical analog and digital supply voltages are used? check answer
