// Tiniest Busy Box // // by P(?)NYB(?)Y // // http://www.oldskoolphreak.com The busy box has been remade in many ways to serve different purposes. For example, The 9-volt busy box utilizes an easily broken circuit for quick disconnection. However, all the different incarnations of the box are too large and easily visible for any practical use. It was this factor that drove me to create my own version. This box is amazingly simple to make, as are most other busy boxes. All you need is an un-crimped RJ-11 plug, about one inch of copper (I suggest taking it out of a spare modular cord), and an RJ-11 crimper. Inside the plug, there should be four spaces for wires to go into, we will only be concerned with the two in the middle (ring and tip). Fold your copper wire in half and insert one end into the ring slot and one into the tip. You can check and make sure they are in the appropriate spot by looking from the direct front of the plug. Now just use your crimper to secure the wire in place, and you're done. You know have a busy box that is easy to hide just about anywhere on your body and almost impossible to see in a phone jack. While I'm on the subject of busy boxes, I figured I'd throw in another concept I've been tossing around. I was reading over Captain B's tutorial on the 9-volt busy box, and it got me thinking. Why bother wasting a perfectly good beige box to connect to a battery when I could just make a busy box with a standard 9-volt battery clip? So, I grabbed a spare one and plugged the two wires into the corresponding slots on an RJ-11 plug (red on the middle-right and black on the middle-left) and crimped it. Sure enough, it works! So, if you're in the market for a new version of an old box, give that one a try. Props to Captain B for inspiring me. Keep learning, keep teaching, keep hacking fun P(?)NYB(?)Y www.st0rage.org
