WinScan is a tool to search class c subnets for Wingate proxies. Wingate proxies are often left unprotected and open to the outside world, which leaves them open to use from unauthorized users. WinScan takes a class c subnet, and can scan it randomly or sequentially for Wingate proxies on port 23. A user who wishes to protect themselves from this attack can password protect use of their Wingate proxy, which will still leave it detectable, but render it useless to intruders. A user can also implement a firewall solution to deny outside access to the Wingate proxy.
