Introduction
Your new Radio Shack PRO-72 50-Channel Portable Scanner lets you in on all
the action. This scanner gives you direct access to over 31,000 exciting
frequencies, including police and fire departments, ambulance services, and
amateur radio services. You can select up to 50 channels to scan, and you
can change your selection at any time.
The secret to your scanner's ability to scan so many frequencies is its
custom-designed microprocessor - a tiny, built-in computer. Your scanner
also has these special features:
Ten Preprogrammed - lets you search for transmissions within preset
Search Bands frequency ranges, so you can find interesting freq-
uencies more quickly.
Ten Preprogrammed - keep you informed about current weather conditions.
Weather Frequencies
Two-Second Scan Delay - delays scanning for 2 seconds before moving to an-
other channel, so you can hear more replies.
50-Channels - lets you store up to 50 of your favorite frequencies
for easy recall and scanning.
Monitor Memory - lets you temporarily save an active frequency you
locate during a direct search, until you decide
whether or not you want to save it into a channel.
Memory Backup - keeps the channel frequencies stored in memory for
about 1 hour during a power loss.
Channel Lockout - keeps channels you select from being scanned.
Key Lock - lets you lock the scanner's keys to help prevent
accidentally changing the scanner's programming.
Flexible Antenna - provides excellent reception and is designed to
with BNC Connector help prevent antenna breakage.
Liquid Crystal - makes it easy to view and change programming infor-
Display mation.
Display Backlight - makes the scanner easy to read in low light situ-
ations.
Three Power Options - lets you power the scanner from internal batteries
(non-rechargeable batteries or a rechargeable scan-
ner battery pack) or external AC or DC power (using
optional adapters).
We recommend you record your scanner's serial number here. This number is on
the scanner's back panel.

Scanning Legally
Scanning is a fun and interesting hobby. You can hear police and fire
departments, ambulance services, government agencies, private companies,
amateur radio services, aircraft, and military operations. It is legal
to listen to almost every transmission your scanner can receive. However,
there are some electronic and wire communications that are illegal to
intercept. These include:
Telephone conversations (cellular, cordless, or other private means of
telephone signal transmission)
Pager transmissions
Scrambled or encrypted transmissions
According to the Federal Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA), as
amended, you could be fined and possibly imprisoned for intentionally
listening to, using, or disclosing the contents of such a transmission
unless you have the consent of all parties to the communication (unless such
activity is otherwise illegal). These laws change from time to time and
there might be state or local laws that also affect legal scanner usage.
