PRO-2033 (200-0410) Installation Faxback Doc. # 6360

CONNECTING THE ANTENNA

The supplied telescoping antenna helps your scanner receive strong local
signals. To install the antenna, screw the antenna into the hole on top
of your scanner.

The antenna's length affects your scanner's sensitivity to different
frequencies.

To receive frequencies between 137 and 174 MHz, fully extend the antenna.
To receive frequencies between 406 and 512 MHz, fully collapse the
antenna.

INSTALLING AN OUTDOOR ANTENNA

For better reception on all bands, you can attach an optional multiband
outdoor antenna to your scanner. Radio Shack stores sell a complete line
of multiband outdoor antennas.

Follow these steps to install an outdoor antenna.

1. Select the highest possible location for the antenna.

2. Mount the antenna, following the instructions supplied with the
    antenna and its mounting hardware.

3. Connect the antenna to the ANT jack on the back of the scanner using
50-ohm coaxial cable (RG-58 or RG-8). For cables longer than 50
feet, use RG-8 low-loss, coaxial cable.

Note: This scanner comes with a Motorola antenna connector. To connect
another type of antenna, you might need an antenna adapter, such
       as Cat. No. 278-208.

CONNECTING TO POWER

1. Plug the supplied AC adapter's plug into the AC 10V jack on the back
    of the scanner.

2. Plug the adapter's other end into a standard AC outlet.

During a power failure, or if you disconnect the power cord, the memory
backup circuit protects channels stored in memory for about 24 hours.

Caution: Use only the supplied AC adapter. Using a different adapter
can damage your scanner and could present a safety hazard.

CONNECTING AN EXTERNAL SPEAKER

You can connect an optional external speaker to the scanner. Use a
speaker with a 1/8-inch plug, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 21-549.
Insert the plug into the EXT SP jack on the back of the scanner. This
automatically disconnects the internal speaker.

INITIALIZING THE SCANNER

If the scanner's display locks up or does not work properly after you
connect to power, follow these steps to initialize the scanner.

Caution: This procedure clears all information in the scanner's memory.
Initialize the scanner only when you are sure the scanner is not
          working properly.

1. Turn off your scanner by turning VOLUME toward OFF until it clicks.

2. Press and hold 2, 9, and */CLEAR, then turn VOLUME toward MAX to turn
    on the scanner.
