CONNECTING THE SUPPLIED ANTENNA

Screw the supplied telescoping antenna into the hole on top of the
scanner.

The antenna's length affects the scanner's receiver sensitivity. Adjust
the length of the antenna as shown below for the best reception.

30 MHz - 174 MHz extend fully

380 MHz - 512 MHz extend 2 segments

CONNECTING AN OPTIONAL ANTENNA

The telescoping antenna is usually adequate for strong local signals.
However, for best results, attach a multi-band outdoor antenna (such as
Cat. No. 200-0013, not supplied) to the scanner. Your local Radio Shack
store sells a complete line of outdoor antennas.

WARNING; WHEN INSTALLING OR REMOVING AN OUTDOOR ANTENNA, USE EXTREME
CAUTION. IF THE ANTENNA STARTS TO FALL, LET IT GO! IT COULD
CONTACT OVERHEAD POWER LINES. IF THE ANTENNA TOUCHES THE POWER
LINE, CONTACT WITH THE ANTENNA, CABLE, OR GUY WIRES CAN CAUSE
ELECTROCUTION AND DEATH! CALL THE POWER COMPANY TO REMOVE THE
ANTENNA. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE IT YOURSELF.

Follow these steps to install an outdoor antenna.

1. Select a location as high as possible.

2. Mount the antenna following the instructions that came with the
    antenna and its mounting hardware.

3. Connect the antenna's cable to the scanner's ANT (antenna) jack on
    the back of the scanner.

For lengths under 50 feet, use RG58 or RG8/M 52-ohm coaxial cable.

For lengths over 50 feet, use RG8 low-loss, coaxial cable.

We recommend the following cables (not supplied):

RG Type Cat. No.

8 278-1312

8/M 278-1313

58 278-1314

CONNECTING POWER

To power your scanner, plug the supplied AC adapter's barrel plug into
the scanner's DC 12V jack. Then, connect the adapter to a standard AC
outlet.

Caution: The supplied AC adapter supplies 12 volts DC, delivers 300
milliamps, and has a center positive plug. Using an adapter
that does not meet these specifications could present a safety
hazard and might damage your scanner.

The memory backup circuit begins to function a few minutes after you plug
in the scanner. If a power failure occurs or if the power cord is
disconnected, this circuit retains information in memory for about 1 hour.

RESETTING AND INITIALIZING THE SCANNER

If the scanner's display locks up or does not work properly after you
connect the power source, you might have to reset the scanner's display
or initialize the scanner.

To reset the scanner while power is on, press RESET at the back of the
scanner (using a pointed object, such as a ball-point pen).

If resetting the scanner does not solve the problem, you might need to
initialize the scanner.

Caution: Initialize the scanner only when you are sure it is not
working properly. Initializing the scanner clears all
          information in memory.

To initialize the scanner:

1. While power is on, press and hold down CLEAR.

2. Momentarily press then release RESET at the back of the scanner
    using a pointed object.

Note: You must release RESET before releasing CLEAR in order to
       clear the memory.

3. After the display reappears, release CLEAR.
