THE ULTIMATE SCANNER Is Here!

Read all about it and other scanner books below

What is the Ultimate Scanner?

1. It's a book, describing the rise of the scanning hobby into the
Information and Computing Age, where automation expands radio
   monitoring beyond mortal boundaries.

2. It's a TurboWhopper radio with switches, wires, dials, knobs, and
meters that were never in the manufacturer's plans.

3. It's a discipline for the next generation of scanning.

4. It's a way to have it all; to cover all the bands, all the
channels, and to miss nothing unless you choose to exclude it.
It's a system that gives you total control over everything that
   comes out of your speaker.

5. It's the best in modifications: expanded memory, cellular coverage,
computer interfaces, data tone squelch, SCA, and much, much more!

6. And, it's only a beginning......a portal to the twilight zone!

The Ultimate Scanner contains at least a little something for everyone
to learn and to enhance their scanning pleasure. The Table of
Contents and a brief description is as follows:

Resources - detailed directory of where to get parts & hacking
            supplies

Index - exhaustive & detailed

The Ultimate Scanner is not a repeat of my first two Scanner
Modification Handbooks; rather, it is an evolution of them. None of
my books will ever be 'repeats' and so if you are a serious hacker and
scannist, you will want them all. If you don't own any yet and are
unsure of where to start, or if your budget won't allow the special
all-three price, let me suggest first the Scanner Modification
Handbook Vol 1 followed by Vol 2 and then the The Ultimate Scanner.
There is a bit of a serial flow to my books, so getting them in order
is probably best.

For Pete's Sake, don't get the idea that a weird SnakeBite XLR-5517
receiver will be found in the Ultimate Scanner. Unfortunately, I am
not yet been able to extract blood from turnips nor snag any magical
performance from budget, bargain basement and old scanners. The
Ultimate Scanner is definitely geared toward the better scanners in
terms of specifics, but it also takes pains to offer something for
everyone, no matter which scanners you have. Projects, ideas, and new
concepts are liberally sprinkled throughout.

About the Author: Bill Cheek (aka 'Dr. Rigormortis') published the
Eleven Meter Times & Journal, wrote the best-selling Scanner
Modification Handbooks, Vols 1 & 2, and since 1991, has published the
widely acclaimed World Scanner Report.

Bill is the author of a wealth of technical and do-it-yourself
features in S-9/Hobby Radio, Popular Communications, and other
periodicals. He's the columnist of the 'Experimenter's Workshop' in
Monitoring Times, and is known on all continents as The Guru of
Scanning. His Hertzian Intercept BBS, for instance, is a world-wide
rally point for scannists.

Bill's technical career began as a Navy electronics technician during
the Vietnam era, and advanced through electrical engineering,
meteorological & air pollution engineering, satellite & space
engineering, to president/CEO of a satellite communications
manufacturing corporation.

Today, he's at the bleeding edge of both the communication and the
computing worlds, as a beta tester for Microsoft, a reviewer of
technical books for some of America's leading publishers, and is the
acknowledged master of making electronics work better -- much better
-- than manufacturers ever planned!

Bill's memberships in many professional and hobby organizations
include the Radio Club of America, Institute of Electrical &
Electronic Engineers, MENSA, Associated Public Safety Communication
Officers, REACT, and the Instrument Society of America. Bill Cheek is
the Ultimate Scannist, ready, willing and able to be your guide to The
Ultimate Scanner!

OTHER BOOKS - BRIEF DESCRIPTIONS
================================

SCANNER BOOKS OF THE 90'S !

Volume 1 of the Scanner Modification Handbook proved that the average
hobbyist could easily perform some relative simple changes in the
equipment and emerge from the experience with a greatly enhanced
scanner. The step-by step instructions and photos left no questions
unanswered and even totally non-technical people found that they could
restore functions that had been locked out at the factory, or add
100-6,000 more memory channels to popular scanners such as the
PRO-2004, PRO-2005, PRO-2006, PRO-34 and others.

In Volume 2, modification guru, Bill Cheek, brings you more great
enhancements for the PRO-2004, PRO-2005, PRO-2006, PRO-34, PRO-2022
and Uniden Bearcats BC-100XLT, BC-200/205XLT, and BC-760/950XLT. He
shows how to adapt many of these modifications to other scanners as
well. In Volume 2, you'll get new circuits and simpler but more
effective approaches to adding signal strength meters, adjusting the
scan delay time (0-12 sec), speeding up scan & search rates, decoding
and using CTCSS tones, adding more memory channels, adding an event
counter, shielding plastic cased equipment, reducing interference,
restoring locked out bands, adding center tuning meters, and more.
Vol-2 also contains updates to the modifications that appeared in
Vol-1, plus more tips, hints, explanations, and tricks of the trade to
make scanners more useful and versatile.

SCANNERS & SECRET FRQUENCIES by LtCol. Henry Eisenson, USMC (Ret) is
a must if you... are curious about scanners; about getting started;
are a serious hobbyist but want to expand your skills; monitor the
government, (for a change); wonder how your privacy is violated; need
to protect yourself against privacy poachers. Read this and you'll
never say anything on the phone unspeakable in a full elevator.

Lists, compares, & describes features demanded by serious scannists.
Lists hundreds of frequencies and procedures, including emergency
services, aviation, law enforcement, evangelists, cellular & industry.
All you need and want to know whether you're a beginner or an old
salt.

FINALLY! We scannists now have a comprehensive manual that really
defines our hobby. Scanners & Secret Frequencies is the single most
complete book on the subject, and one of the most favorably reviewed
books in electronics today. Starts with basic physics, moves quickly
through radio and antenna design (and agrees that no one really knows
for sure how radio really works!) and then covers scanning from A to
Z. Not only is it perfect for you experienced hobbyists, it's ideal
for that friend, neighbor, or relative you've been trying to get
interested.
