Sparc Architecture Documentation

Together with the PA-RISC and MIPS architectures, the Sparc architecture is a typical descendant of the RISC designs crafted in the late 1980'ies. It is used in most of SUN's computers and is still developed as of today (the latest development being the UltraSPARC III CPU's I think). On nearly all Sparc based workstations and servers, the Solaris operating system is used, although Linux, NetBSD and OpenBSD have reached a high supportance and reliability on the Sparc architecture, too.
