View Full Version : Why do people have good intentions?

This thought wasn't meant to be religious but I couldn't think of anywhere else to place it- and I have been starting to many topics in spurious and probably pissing off the mods so here-

It seems like everyone is born so innocent- then either takes the path of "good" or "evil" but in their mind they only act in a way which will make them feel "good" or "positive" about themselves. It is like the world was meant to be one big sissy family that frolicks in the grass and has fun but was stricken down by the power of evil or something. I have started to read other peoples minds and realize that they are all doing what they think is best and how no matter what they think that deep down inside they are a normal, good, or "cool" person. I want to know why people have these good intentions- why everyone is 99.9 percent the same but attempts to come off as an "individual." I don't beleive that ANYONE is an individual. I think that the planet Earth is alive and we are it's parasites eating away at it. The Earth is full of so many different creatures, beautiful landscapes, great towering mountings, rushing waters.... So many great feelings and a bunch of retarded lifeforms to enjoy them. Yet we are changing everyday but is it for the best? I wouldn't call it evolution when we are in fact, becoming worse. I have never been convinced by christianity and have found very many flaws in it- in fact I consider it to be communism but take a moment to think beyond your everyday lies deceit and insanity and consider the possibility of the Apocalypse for a second. I am willing to bet a billion dollars that the Apocalypse will not happen- but that in itself is a bet that any intelligent person is willing to make. If we were truly sent here to accomplish something than we have failed- and if there is a god out there watching over us he has failed too. God by definition is meant to be perfect- and if he was perfect he would not have created us. There is something out there greater than god- in fact compared to the universe god is but a turd. Think about it- the christian god is not what brought us here- the Universe in itself is so advanced and complex that it puts the very definition of god to shame. I believe in the saying that all matter created can not be destroyed (specifically raw energy)- but I believe new matter can be created despite contrary facts. I believe that the universe being round implies that it revolves and repeats itself- that histroy repeats itself many times- that everything that has happened has happened before.. and that for some reason we were put here in an attempt of "perfection" that we were put here to "become god." I believe there is a greater power- not because I "want to believe" but simply because all evidence points toward there being one and I don't rule out possibilities simply to fit in or be cool. So why do people have good intentions?

My first thought, after quickly scanning through everything you wrote:

It's recipricol altruism, which appeals to the GROUP as a superoganism and not so much to the INDIVIDUAL organism. It benefits the fitness of the person with good intentions, as it collects "favors" and paints a good image of you towards the GROUP.

keyword here: Group

And just think about it, what happens in society to people who have public displays of bad intentions? They are "ousted" and humiliated, punished and expected by the GROUP to feel shame and remorse.

After reading the whole thing, I sorta-kinda agree with you to some extent on:

quote:I don't beleive that ANYONE is an individual. I think that the planet Earth is alive and we are it's parasites eating away at it.

I too believe that we are all part of a big superorganism on this planet - but I think it's important to perceive ourselves as individuals, else we might not be able to find in us the drive and determination it takes to actually enjoy our part in the whole big grand scheme of things.

Having perceived individual personnas is our biggest gift, our only real muse as we float through this SPECK we call our lifetimes.

We see altruism in other species besides humans and it is explained by evolutionary theory quite well. i would comment more but I dont read paragraphs that long.
