Okay, now that I have attracted everyone in this forum with my stupid message, I would like to say I am Atheist/Agnostic but came across this article and would like to know the view points explaining it from non believers and Christians.
God does not leave us with just claims of His divine handiwork in the Bible, but also supports it with compelling evidence. The design of the Bible itself is a miracle. Written over more than 1,500 years by vastly different writers, yet every book in the Bible is consistent in its message. These 66 books talk about history, prophecy, poetry, and theology. Despite their complexity, differences in writing styles and vast time periods, the books of the Bible agree miraculously well in theme, facts and cross-referencing. No human beings could have planned such an intricate combination of books over a 1,500-year time span. Bible manuscripts (remember, there were no printing presses until 1455) have survived despite weather, persecution and time. Most ancient writings written on weak materials like papyrus have vanished all together. Yet many copies of the Old Testament scriptures survived. For instance, the Dead Sea Scrolls contain all books of the Old Testament, except Esther, and have been dated to before the time of Christ. Consider Julius Caesar’s Gallic Wars. Only ten copies written about 1,000 years after the event are in existence. In comparison, there are over 24,000+ New Testament manuscripts, the earliest one dating to within 24 years after Christ.

I can't be arsed to refute all the crap he spouts. Suffice to say that from a more scholarly view point its a ***L*O*A*D-O*F-D*I*N*G*O*S- K*I*D*N*E*Y*S***
I don't think you should boast with the fact that your account of the events that supposedly took place was written several hundred years after it was over.
Wonder how Hitler will be portrayed in a few hundred years. The black winged Haitlor sought to consume the world in fires of Arayenia but was toppled by by the arch angel Churgenheil in a mighty duel above the mount Rechsteig. Something like that if our history still relied on hearsay, rumors, old stories and shit we teach our children
...I would like to say I am Atheist/Agnostic...
Sorry, but how can you be "Athiest/Agnostic"? Either you believe in a higher being or you don't. Which is it?

Sorry, what I meant was Atheist Agnostic, not one or the other. It is possible to be an Atheist Agnostic.

Well, atheists are going to die. :p
A better title for that text would be "Here's proof that the Bible was written by God!". :)

Hey guuess what... all theists will die as well!
Everybody dies, it's just a matter of how and when.
Also, when you die, you stay dead.

You're right, the difference is not whether or not you die, it's where you go after you die. :)

Curious he mentions the famed Dead Sea Scrolls, as they completely expose the truth behind the Old Testament: http://tinyurl.com/2ehe43

The oldest book in the world is the Art of War by Sun Tzu, it has survived all these years and yet no-ones attributed it's continued existence to anything other than the diligence of scholars through ages and due to the fact that it served a purose. I don't see why, objectively, we should treat the bible any differently.
Specifically, the bible has survived for a very simple reason, that it is a good device for keeping order. What's more likely to make someone obey the law; a local city watchman or an immortal, omni-present God that can send you to an eternity of torment.
Also, the bible is anything but consistent. In the Old Testament God is vengefuland wrathful, whereas in the New Testament he is forgiving and loving. The message changes as the "target audience" changes from the richer members of Jewish society to the impoverished Jews. And before you say that he was forgiving in the Old Testament, reasonably explain why he ordered the massacre of the people of Jericho, down to the last woman and child.
Also for Moses to have crossed the Red Sea, then he must have backtracked on himself somewhere, because Jericho is north-east of the Ancient Egyptian capital, and the Red Sea is south-east, check it on a map. So unless he marched back into Egyptian lands it is impossible for the bible account of the Jewish exoduss to be true. So if the Bible is the "divine word of God" then it has some serious inconsistencies, rather than the water-tight tome that you profess.
A little fact to leave you with: Did you know that Patmos, the Greek island where the Revelations of John were written is one of the few places in Greece where magic mushrooms grow...coincidence?

Good post, but I think the oldest books are the Vedas. Although wikipedia seems to contradict itself by saying 2nd century BC one time and 1200BC the other.
Oh, and I think the oldest version of the Epic of Gilgamesh dated back to the 7th century BC, which would make it a century older than the Art of War.
By the way, I'm not trying to nitpick, just being informative.

technically the oldest book in the world is the Principia Discordia as it was actually written 3 hundred thousand billion years ago by atom-traveling golems. truth.
