Swiss Reject 2 Immigrant Proposals

URICH, Sept. 26 (Reuters) - Swiss voters rejected proposals on Sunday to make it easier for the children and grandchildren of immigrants to get Swiss passports, a victory for the nation's right wing.

Voters rejected two propositions, one to make it easier for young second-generation immigrants to get Swiss citizenship and another to grant passports automatically to third-generation immigrants born in Switzerland

Representatives of Switzerland's foreigners and immigrants, about a fifth of the 7.3 million population, were bitterly disappointed by the extent of their defeat.

The People's Party campaign featured posters branded racist by their opponents. The party cited disputed statistics that predict a dramatic rise in Switzerland's Muslim population and a picture of a mocked-up Swiss passport in the name of Osama bin Laden.

Christoph Blocher, the party leader, said at a news conference that the electorate had rejected the proposals, and, "This is to be respected and there is nothing more to say."

The Young Socialist Party said: "The Blocherites' hate campaign has prevailed."

Trying to stem the muzification of Switzerland is portrayed as hate by the opposition. Sounds more like the White public there sees the threat, and votes against it while they are still in the majority. Must be nice to have a party who will even broach the subject.

1/5 are foreigners and immigrants, I think there are a lot of White Eastern Europeans there as well.

At least I would hope so, 20% is a lot of mud.
