With the Yule season just around the corner I would like to burn some propaganda DVDs to pass out as stocking stuffers but I'm having a problem, my E-drive will not read blank DVDs.
It will play pre-recorded CDs and burn CDs and it will also play pre-recorded DVDs but when I try to burn a DVD it keeps telling me to insert a disc into drive:E even though I've done that repeatedly.
I've search online for an answer and have not yet found a satisfactory solution.
My PC is an Acer/Aspire running Windows Vista/Home premium.
If anybody has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it.

I assume its a dvd reader/writer?
Perhaps the writing mechanism in it isnt working?
Also try using a different brand of blank dvd

correct

it burns CDs with no problem
Also try using a different brand of blank dvd
I'll try that if I have to.
Currently I've been trying to use Philips brand DVD+R which I have a big stack of.

Mike,
Don't want to sound like a wise-ass, but are you absolutely sure that this is a DVD-writer? Years ago when DVD-writers were still expensive, I had a drive that while it could read CD's and DVD's, it could only record to CD-R.

are you absolutely sure that this is a DVD-writer? I would assume so as it has bundled among the programs, Windows DVD Maker, Windows Movie Maker, as well as the Windows Media Center having a burn DVD option.
Whenever I try to employ any of these programs I keep getting the "insert blank disc" notification.

Does it say "DVD-ROM" on it? Or does it say "DVD-RW" or "Multi Recorder" or "DVD-ReWritable" anywhere?
ROM is "Read Only Memory" and "RW" is "Read (Only Memory) - Write".

Yes, when I go to the (no)help index it uses the term DVD-RW often.
What is the make and model of your DVD drive? Alternatively, what is the model of your computer? My PC is an Acer/Aspire running Windows Vista/Home premium.

Try this. (http://www.acer.ca/acer/service.do?LanguageISOCtxParam=en&miu10einu24.current.attN2B2F2EEF=3751&sp=page15e&ctx2.c2att1=27&miu10ekcond13.attN2B2F2EEF=3751&CountryISOCtxParam=CA&ctx1.att21k=1&CRC=719687231) You can search desktops and laptops there, because I know there are Aspire laptops, desktops and even netbooks (8-11" laptops). The model number will be either on the side of your tower (desktop) or underneath the laptop on a sticker.
