[font=Arial][size=2]Don’t be surprised if you pass by The Home Depot on Wheatland Road and I-20 in Dallas, on any given day and see a few people out picketing, with signs reading: Racial Discrimination Practiced Here. They would be among the sixty-six present or past employees who signed a petition and sent it to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission stating how they were discriminated against at this particular location. They indicated in their petitions that they had been subjected to the following: Unfair pay, racial charge, wrongful termination, promotional practices, brutality, discrimination with being hurt on the job, intimidation, sexual harassment, retaliation, demotion because of race and racial slurs, including being called “nigger” and “fucking wetback”.

[/size][/font][font=Arial][size=2] Since June of 2002, Michael Jones has filed six complaints of discrimination to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (E.E.O.C.) including charges of being passed over for promotions on five separate occasions, sexual harassment by a white male assistant manager, verbal harassment, retaliation and questioned about being in the store, when off the clock. Harold Banks said he was discriminated from day one of being hired, citing that despite his experience and education, a young white boy who was about 20 years younger, started on the same day, but received higher pay. Banks has filed seven complaints, which include unfair promotional practices, harassment and retaliation. Banks said he has been referred to as “boy”, and called a “nigger” and one manager threatened Banks saying “next time I will string your black ass up”. In July of 2002, one man says he was severely beaten, stomped and kicked by five white sub-contactors hired by The Home Depot. Daniel Jones had to have surgery as a result of his injuries. “I had to have a bone fusion at the top of my neck because they knocked my vertebra down (from my neck). The guys that did this to me were fired. That was it. The police came out but they did not arrest any of the men. I filed assault charges but they were dismissed. Home Depot paid all my medical bills but I don’t get Workman’s comp, they have a different type of insurance. I still have not been able to go back to work since June of 2002. I am still going to therapy and going to a psychiatrist. They also denied me a promotion, which I am convinced was because of my race.”[/size][/font]
