A Ukiah man reportedly caught with his pants down -- on at least a couple of occasions -- is facing charges of indecent exposure if the Mendocino County District Attorney's Office decides to prosecute his case.
Jose Manuel Vazquez-Reyes, 20, of Ukiah, on the evening of Sept. 23 allegedly exposed himself and then masturbated in front of two women shopping at Wal-Mart.
One incident occurred inside the store and a second outside in the parking lot, according to Ukiah Police.
A woman and her husband -- an off-duty Willits Police officer -- split up inside the store to do some shopping.
The woman said she noticed that a man appeared to be following her while she shopped and later told police he was "acting strange."
Next thing she knew, Vazquez-Reyes, walking in an aisle next to her -- lifts up his shirt, police said. The woman thought this was a bit odd, so she looked over at him a second time and he allegedly had his pants down to his knees and his hands on his penis, police said.
At this, she went to find her husband in the store, and when she did, they called police and then went outside to look for Vazquez-Reyes.
Meanwhile, Vazquez-Reyes had already gone outside to the store's parking lot where he allegedly exposed himself to another woman.
The Calpella woman told The Daily Journal she was coming out of Wal-Mart and walking to her car when she noticed a man following her.
"When I was walking to my car I could sense him looking at me ... targeting me. I felt like he was hunting me. ... So I put my stuff in the car and as I was getting into the driver's seat, I saw him standing between two cars and he had his penis out and he was masturbating and shaking it at me ... looking at me and playing with himself," the woman said.
"I looked back and I started to drive away and I looked down the next parking lot aisle to make sure a car wasn't coming and I saw him again; he moved himself into the middle of the aisle and he was still doing that at me," she said, adding, "Thank God, my girls weren't with me."
She said the incident "freaked" her out. "I felt violated," she said.
The woman said she didn't know if she should call the police or not, and then she saw a UPD officer in the parking lot. Just as the Calpella woman got close to the UPD officer, he drove off after Vazquez-Reyes.
Apparently this was the officer called by the woman and her husband following the incident inside the store. After the couple called the police and went outside to find Vazquez-Reyes, the off-duty Willits Police officer identified himself to Vazquez-Reyes and told him to get out of his vehicle. Instead Vazquez-Reyes allegedly drove off, but not before the Willits Police officer got his license plate number.
Vazquez-Reyes was later located and identified by witnesses.
Anyone who may have witnessed similar incidents at Wal-Mart is asked to call Ukiah Police Detective Mariano Guzman at 463-6246.
