I've never been a big WWII buff. In high school history class, I never paid much attention or gave much thought to the whole thing, except to note that it seemed screwy that we were aligned with the Russian commies, who were persona non grata around here in the eighties. I also thought that the Nazis sure looked sharp in those uniforms.
But recently someone gave me the book Inside the Third Reich by Albert Speer. It's interesting reading so far. I'm sure others here read it long ago. In it, Speer makes reference to meals taken with Hitler and the conversations they had. Is the book about Hitler's "table talk" or "tea-time talks" (can't remember the title) based on these same times?
Speer comes off, to me anyway, as a bit of a snivelling ass. He sprinkles his recount with protests that he himself was never racist or anti-semitic. While he seems to show some small bit of common human decency and empathy for Hitler, he's writing purely from the viewpoint of repentant sinner. He claims to have been driven by a desire for success as an architecht rather than political idealogy.

He WAS a sniveling ass.
Speer was a once hard-core "Nazi" who saved his own ass by denouncing all his friends after the war.
He SHOULD have hung after the Nuernberg Soviet Tribunal, but he was a collaborator with the All-Lies, and lived to write his books.

Speer associated with RABBIS and old Jewish women towards the end of his life. He was an utter coward and if anyone here wants the real TRUTH as to why the Allies didn't hang him it is because he was Upper Class, polished, and good-looking. Hell, let's be honest, some of the Allied judges were probably queer for him. This and this alone saved his traitorous hide.

Speer had to lie in Nuremberg to save his life.
His books are mostly lies too, because in still-occupied Germany it is illegal to tell the truth about worldwar 2.
Better read the books of David Irving, freely available on www.fpp.co.uk

Speer had the balls to fly into the bombed out streets of Berlin (piloted in by Hanna Reitsch) to see Hitler in his last days in the Bunker. If only Hitler had opted for the flight out of Berlin..... a 4th Reich could have been initiated. An 'If Only'..........
Instead Speer flew out alone with Reitsch, and he spent his last days living in England.

Very much like the Hitler Youth Leader & coward Baldur von Schirach who said he felt sorry for what had happened to the jews and his involvment in building "Hitlers War machine".
In his memoirs, "Ich Glaubte an Adolf Hitler" = I believed in Hitler, published one year after his release from Spandau prison in 1966 you can read his weakness.
In his memoirs Baldur von Shirach tries to explain the power Hitler had exerted over him and the German nation like an evil sourcer. In his later years the trator considered it his duty to destroy any belief in the rebirth of Nazism and an the image of Hilter as a great German leader. He also like to talk endlessly about the terrible Holohoax and the sad part he played in it and how he blamed himself.
Baldur von Shirach died in his sleep in a little hotel in South Germany paid for by his lies on the 8 August 1974. He died a trator!
