Left-wing Spanish politicians have condemned as "fascist" efforts by Spain's socialist Defence Minister, Jose Bono, to load tomorrow's National Day celebrations with symbols of the Civil War.

For the first time, the annual military parade will include a veteran of Spain's Republican Army who was among the forces that liberated Paris from the Nazis in 1944, and a veteran from Franco's Blue Division who fought alongside Hitler's troops on the Russian front.

Mr Bono, the man who once described Tony Blair as a "complete dickhead" for supporting President Bush over Iraq.......

Great to know thereare still some veterans of the Blue Duivision still around.

I saw a couple of Division Azul men when I was last in Madrid in 2000 November, for the Franco/Jose Antonio Rallies, at the Plaza De Oriente outside the Royal Palace.

These men are now rare.

Fine men.
