Call me a lochinkop (Yiddish for "empty head"), but purely on the facts, nothing about this story makes sense. Patricia Richardson, a Jewish London housewife, is choosing to stand for the British National Party, the far-Right organ notorious for its racist policies and its anti-Semitic and Holocaust-denying ideology.
For its part, the BNP is happy to accept Mrs Richardson as a candidate, despite the inconvenience that she knows, by her own admission, next to nothing about politics. Not even, it transpires, the date of the forthcoming June district council elections, in which she is standing as the BNP's Epping Forest candidate
I am only barely Jewish, through my parentage and through food. I clean my chicken the kosher way, and from time to time I get a craving for gefilte fish or chicken soup, and recently I found a bagel bar in Ilford where they do takeaway cholent. But I never light Fridaynight candles: I regard all candles as a fire hazard, and we celebrate Easter and Christmas, not Passover or Chanukah."
