Stanko Poklepovic is going to be the new Hajduk Split football club coach.
The daily Slobodna Dalmacija has reported that Poklepovic, 71, will be approved by the club’s board today (Fri).
Igor Stimac, coach of Croatian first league football club Zagreb, was a candidate for the job.
Stimac, 42, a former Hajduk Split and Croatian national team player, has confirmed that Hajduk boss Josko Svagusa asked him to succeed Edoardo Reja but he refused the offer.
Stimac said: "I told my friend Svagusa not to complicate the situation and not to propose me as new coach. I may be Hajduk’s coach in the future, but not now. Hajduk needs someone from Split who is already familiar with Hajduk, and I have proposed Stanko Poklepovic."
Edoardo Reja has left Hajduk and been the new coach of Italian Serie A team Lazio since Tuesday.
