German neo-Nazis who plotted to destroy a Jewish community centre on the anniversary of the Kristallnacht pogrom are set to testify this week about their shadowy 'fuhrer' who will stand trial next year.
Martin Wiese has been indicted by prosecutors as the alleged brains behind the attempt to explode a bomb at the groundbreaking ceremony for Munich's new Jewish cultural centre on 9 November last year - the 65th anniversary of Hitler's state-organised terror against the Jews.
Wiese is the leader of the Bavarian neo-Nazi group Kameradschaft Sud with links to radical right-wing groups such as the SSS of Saxony, who amassed an arsenal of mines, explosives, rocket launchers and machine guns which were discovered in a lock-up garage by police three years ago.
The defendants, whose testimony is being heard behind closed doors, said Germany's right-wing has begun fragmenting itself into small-cell structures such as those favoured by the leftist Red Army Faction terrorists of the 1970s and 1980s.
There is even a name for this loose coalition of armed Nazis: authorities refer to it as the Brown Army Faction from the brown shirts Hitler's stormtroopers wore in the early days of the national socialist movement.
The court heard other targets earmarked for destruction in Munich included cultural and business centres frequented by Italians, Spaniards, Turks and Greeks and a school for foreign children.
