Beatles turned me into an anglophile, says Gene Simmons of Kiss

Kiss frontman Gene Simmons has revealed a childhood love of the Beatles turned him into a lover of all things English.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo ahead of the UK leg of the band's European tour, the rock star said he had always wanted to come to the fab four's hometown.

"I was watching the Ed Sullivan show and I saw them. Those skinny little boys, kind of androgynous, with long hair like girls," he said.

"It blew me away that these four boys in the middle of nowhere could make that music.

"Overnight I became an Anglophile."

In particular, he told the news provider he liked that the success of the Beatles made it acceptable to be different from the norm.

"They didn’t look like everyone else, and they still made the girls scream," he said.

Kiss will be in Liverpool for one night only as part of their Sonic Boom Over Europe tour, at Liverpool Echo Arena on May 4th.

I tried to locate the clip of Chaim Witz from his TV show refusing to touch the motor of his car, saying something like "that's goy's work," but it seems to have vanished off the face of the Internet. I remember some mulatto anti-NWO guy had uploaded it on YouTube, but when I follow that bookmark, it says his account was shut down.

Have you ever considered running for a public office?

There is a shortage in this country of politicians that have the combination of leadership skills and common sense. Politicians that have leadership skills but no common sense are currently leading this country down the wrong path.

I do think you have the right combination of leadership skills and common sense to be an asset to America. If you were able to obtain a position in government that would allow you to use your power and influence to make changes then you could make a real difference. Many of us want to reroute America back to our roots of freedom and limited government but most of all it would be a start just to get some leaders in power that have common sense.

Think of it. Governor Simmons, or how about Senator Simmons? President Simmons might be a stretch, but who knows, if anyone could do it you could.

The problem with Gene Simmons, the Politician is... both parties would reject my positions on many issues. And so would people on both sides of the aisle.

I'm Consevative, and I'm Liberal.

Depends on the issues.

I am very Liberal when it comes to Social Issues --

I believe in separation of Church and State.

For one thing, my religion doesn't have a Church. It has a Synogogue, or a Temple. I wouldn't want to see one religious symbol prominently displayed in public areas... unless all religious symbols are displayed. And, while the Founding Fathers did, in fact create a Judeo-Christian country in America. It also came at a great expense to the Native Indian population, who were wiped out and who were here first... for over 50,000 years... and had their own religious beliefs, languages and culture...

I believe everyone should have equal access to OPPORTUNITY, without feeling ENTITLED to it. That's Conservative and Liberal.

I do not believe in Universal Health Care. For the simple reason that America cannot afford it. We are almost broke as a country. That's Pragmatic.

We are not a small country like Sweden. We have a population of over 300 million people. We simply cannot afford to guarantee that everyone has everything they want. Never happen. And if you read the Wall St Journal, you will see what is happening to all the European countries that practice a Socialist Economic policy --they are all going broke. Greece, Spain, Ireland, France... one right after the other.

When the government guarantees (PAYS) that you can have health care, (PAYS) for a military, (PAYS) for an infrastructure..highways, police, hospitals.. .you have a recipe for financial disaster. And, it's happening everywhere.

I believe in Unions.

But I also believe anyone should be able to be fired who isn't qualified, or isn't doing a good job. That's Liberal and Conservative. I don't believe a Union should be able to shut down a factory, and lose everyone their jobs... even if it feels it isn't being paid what it should be. I believe in a free market. I believe in Right To Work. You and I are the same. I'll prove it.

My plumbing is backed up. What you and I would do is, call a few plumbers and ask for quotes. The one with the lowest quote (usually) gets the job. If all the plumbers got together and insisted I pay more than what I want to pay, I would simply try to do the plumbing by myself. Result? Plumbers don't get work.

I believe English has to be the language of America. That's Pragmatic. Otherwise, we go back to the Tower of Babel -- everyone speaking their own language and no one understanding what the other has to say. We MUST have ONE LANGUAGE, so we can communicate with each other... no matter what your native language was.

Having a Bi-Lingual language philosophy is a nice idea on paper... but which of Earth's ten million languages is the other language? Native American languages? French? German? Hungarian? Hebrew? Farsi? African languages? Asian languages? Spanish?

I say, ENGLISH is the language of America. And, I speak FOUR languages -- Hungarian, Hebrew, German, English.

I believe in Legal Immigration. I am a legal immigrant. As are tens of millions of Americans. I do not believe in illegal Immigration. There are (by some estimates) anywhere from 12 million to 22 million illegal Immigrants. Whether illegal Immigrants from anywhere are legal or not, is not an issue I would take up right now. But I would insist on everyone learning to speak English, and having job skills. It's better for them (it will make them more money). It's better for America.

I believe in the great melting pot. You're proud of your culture, and I'm proud of mine... but so is every culture. So mostly, keep it to yourself. Dress British, think Yiddish.

Mostly, be proud and grateful to be in America. Remember, your culture never gave you what America has. Be proud to be an American first. Your culture second. Not African American, or Spanish American or Jewish American or Catholic American.

American Spanish. And American Catholic. And so on.

I believe in a very conservative fiscal and economic policy. America is now approaching over ten TRILLION dollars in debt. By 2025 we will be broke. I say, get rid of all pork (look it up in the Wall St Journal). Balance the budget in ten years. Do whatever has to be done. This is for BOTH parties.

I believe in a flat tax. I'm told if everyone paid 20 to 25 percent tax (no exceptions) on everything and all income, we would not have to raise taxes and it would actually result in getting the government more money.

I believe in the death penalty. That's Conservative.

But I believe everyone does, actually. Really. To anyone who says they don't -- imagine this: Someone breaks into your home in the middle of the night, while you and your family are asleep. You wake up startled, get your gun, and go into your child's room. And there, standing over her crib, is a deranged looking man with a knife in his hand.

Now, be honest and choose one of these two options:

A. You shoot the bastard dead, and keep shooting until you send him to the hell he was meant to be in for eternity.

Or,

B. You try to discuss with him what his problems are -- maybe he was molested by his family members... maybe he has a mental problem... maybe he's on drugs.

I'm sure you know which of the two YOU would choose.

See?

We ALL believe in the death penalty.

In general, I believe in small government. That's Conservative. I don't want the government telling us much. Protect the country. Protect every citizen's rights to equal treatment under the law, through the Supreme Court. Collect taxes. That's about it.

I believe in a Proactive Military Policy. That's Conservative. Everyone believes in the same philosophy, really. Trust me.

Follow me on this. You're a Pacifist (make love, not war), and someone else is a WarHawk. You're both the same. At the core.

One thousand yards away, a guy with a gun in his hand is walking towards you. The Warhawk might choose to shoot the guy right away. The Pacifist might not do that, a thousand yards away. But by the time the guy is one inch from your head, pointing the gun to your temple, both of you would shoot this bastard dead.

At that point, you're both the same. So, there are really no such things as Pacifists. Not when the danger is right in your face. The difference between Pacifists and Warhawks is a perception of the DISTANCE of the danger. i.e. how far away is the danger from me? How likely is it to happen TO ME?

That isn't Liberal or Conservative. That's Pragmatic.

And re: being a Pacifist -- the people who would love that ideal are all the dictators and despots that wanted to take over the world. They would LOVE for you to be a Pacifist and never go to war. Want a list of em? Hitler, Tojo, Stalin, Mussolini, Pol Pot... Kim Il Jung...

They are COUNTING on the idea that America is soft, and will not take up the military option.

When they DO make the blunder of pushing America too hard, we all unite and reluctantly show these despots how the finest Military force the world has ever known does business.

And (as in the case of Hitler and Hussein and others), their fate will be their carcassas. Hitler hid in a bunker. And Hussein hid in a spider hole. One committed suicide, and they found his body burned. Hussein was hanged by is own people. Mussolini was hanged upside down in public, by his own people. Ceau?escu was executed with his wife by a firing squad, against a wall in the countryside by members of the same military he commanded a week before.

This is their fate when they push America too hard.

I would pass a law that ALL POLITICANS running for office would get a certain, guaranteed amount of time on TV and Media to discuss their position.

I would pass a law that LIMITS all political fundraising and political spending.

This would level the playing field. So that people from all walks of life can have the same opportunity. Not just the rich.

You want ME to run for public office?

Really?

I think I would make a lot of people on both sides of the aisle furious.

But I'm like you... in the end. I vote for ISSUES. Not the political party it comes from. Like most Americans.

Which is why sometimes the Democrats win. Sometimes the Republicans win.

Mostly, they're both a bunch of rascals, who should be thrown out when they abuse the trust of the people who put them there in the first place.

Dear Mr. Simmons,

Last night, I saw your Family Jewels episode when you visited the Anne Frank House. I could see that you were truly moved, and I have a story I would like to share with you that I think you will like, if it is possible to like a story related to the Holocaust.

I was a third year Dental student at the University of Illinois at Chicago. I was doing my rotation in the Oral Diagnosis Clinic. The clinic was run by Dr. Olga Horowitz, a lady about your mother's age, who was like a mother to all of us. We never knew for sure, but had assumed that she had lived through some badness during the war.

Anyway, one day, this older German man came into the clinic for evaluation. He was not my patient, but was in an operatory near me. Dr. Horowitz went in to check on the student's work, and when she saw the man, this normally jovial lady became obviously very disturbed. She asked the man in a very stern voice where he was in 1942 or 3 (i can't remember). He became very indignant, and said "I don't have to take this from a Jew!", and ran out of the place like his ass was on fire. We all went to Dr. Horowitz, and asked her what the problem was. She rolled up her sleeve, showed us her number tattoo, and said that he had been a guard at the concentration camp where she had been held. Several of us tried to chase him down, but by then, he had disappeared into the streets of Chicago.

I don't know whatever happened to him, but he didn't come back to the Dental school. It's a very small world.

If you would grant me permission I would like to play parts of two episodes of "Gene Simmons Family Jewels" in two of my classes. I would like to play the portion where Gene talks to the sleeping student and then uses his idea for my Freshman Seminar class where we teach time management, accountability, study skills, etc. I would like to use excerpts of episode about his trip to the Anne Frank house with my English class. So many of my students think this is ancient, irrelevant history and I'm always seeking new ways to reach them.

I want you to know that I am a great admirer of yours. I didn’t used to be. When I was in junior high (In the late 70’s) and KISS was huge, I didn’t understand the music, but now I love it. I watch every episode of “Gene Simmons’s Family Jewels”. That is why I’m writing tonight.

I was watching the “KISS the Vets” episode, and was crying by the end. I wanted to tell you how much my husband and I appreciate your support of the vets and the troops. You see, we lost our son, Tyler, in Iraq on November 2, 2005 to an IED explosion to his humvee. He was the first soldier in our hometown of Evans (about 50 miles north of Denver CO) and Weld County to be killed in the war. He was just 5 days shy of turning 21, his birthday is November 7. And Like your son Nick, he was 6’7”. In fact, watching Nick and his humor reminds us of Tyler a lot.

When you were talking about how the troops allow us to live the lives we do when you had accepted those gloves, I was crying both for my son and the recognition that you were giving the troops. It makes my husband and I feel better about Tyler’s sacrifice when I hear people like you express their appreciation and gratitude.

When Tyler enlisted, he told me he knew he would be going to Iraq, he joined the infantry, and he told me that he wanted to keep our country safe and help the people of Iraq to be able to live the kind of life they wanted to live and not have someone telling them how to live. I just wanted you to know that that the kind of support that you and your family gives veterans and the troops means so much, even if they don’t get to meet you personally . It reaches to more people than you might know.
