NATO says member countries and the Bosnian government have pledged (EURO)4.6 million ($5.7 million) to help 2,750 former Bosnian soldiers re-enter civilian life.

NATO said in a statement Monday that the money will be used over the next two years to assist soldiers were lost their jobs in the ongoing transformation of the Bosnian Armed Forces.

Bosnia will replace about half of its 5,000 soldiers who reached the age of 35 with young recruits.

In 2006, allies gave about (EURO)6 million for a similar program that helped more than 2,800 former soldiers.

During Bosnia’s 1992-95 war, the country had more than 300,000 armed men serving various armies that were fighting each other. Over time, the armies melded into a single 10,000-strong professional armed force.
