Second Anniversary

Well, another year has gone by since I wrote my “First Anniversary” piece for VNN. In this semi-fictional but entirely truthful essay, I attempted to assess the current state of the White Nationalist movement and my contribution (if any) to it. It is time again to look back and reflect on another year and to set forth my hopes for the future.
As I reread what I wrote in October 2003, I see that I displayed an optimism – guarded though it was – that is so often typical of new converts to a cause. I am, as they say, older and wiser now, but hopefully not too jaded or burned out. It has not been a good year for “the movement,” whichever way you want to slice it. We have seen the conviction of Matt Hale on totally bogus charges and our utter failure in the Chester Doles case. The almost $80,000 raised for Doles’s defense demonstrated VNN’s reach and effectiveness, but unfortunately this phenomenal success proved to be VNN’s high water mark. As far as I can tell, the money was totally wasted and Chester Doles would have been equally well-served using a free public defender. $80,000 could have gone a long way toward creating new White media, for example.
VNN also suffered from the Bill White fiasco and the subsequent freefall in website rankings. This attrition in readership was partially offset by the emergence of VNN Forum as a rival to Stormfront, but this has proved to be a mixed blessing at best. I’ve already expressed my displeasure with the juvenile personal attacks that make up at least 80% of the posts there, but lately I see some signs of improvement as moderators have finally decided to ban some of the worst offenders. Free speech can never be an absolute. But as an example of its most effective use, the Forum provided the impetus for the creation of the new VNN Tabloid, an extremely positive recent development I’ll have more to say about below.
