If you either can't swim or forget how to open a door or window of a Jeep, change brands. Volkswagen beetles are water-tight :D

NEWARK, New Jersey (AP) -- Three women returning from a birthday party drowned as the women frantically called a friend on a cell phone instead of dialing 911.

Hmmm, returning from a birthday party late at night and then wind up in the river? Say it with me: Police say alcohol was involved.
From the title of this thread I thought scientists have learned that the dome shape of a VW Beetle harnesses the power of the sun, therefore reducing drain on your cell phone battery. :D

Call me crazy, but if my car ended up in a river, and I was still conscious, I would undo my seatbelt, roll down my window, and swim out of the damn thing.
