North Idaho attorney charged in murder-for-hire plot

Prosecutors say Edgar J. Steele, long tied to hate groups, agreed to pay money to see his wife and her mother dead.

Edgar J. Steele, 64, was charged Friday - the same day the women were to be killed in a car crash meant to look like an accident, according to a probable-cause affidavit.

A confidential witness occasionally employed by Steele met with the FBI Wednesday and told agents Steele would pay him to murder the women.

The witness said Steele had discussed a list of people he wanted dead, including his wife and her mother, six months earlier. The witness agreed to the plot and accepted travel money, court documents say.

According to the affidavit, the witness was supposed to kill the women Friday because Steele had an alibi for that day. So agents concealed a deviceon the informant and recorded Steele planning the murders, the document said.

"The United States magistrate had found probable cause for the offense," said Traci Whelan, an assistant U.S. attorney for Idaho. "As for the timing of the arrest, it was prudent, given he had apparently set a deadline for it."

Steele is well known from his work for hate groups such as the Aryan Nations and other high-profile clients, including the McGuckin family, who held off police during a 2001 Idaho standoff. He's also known for vocal anti-semitic and racist rants on the Internet.

The witness told the FBI Steele paid $500 in cash for travel expenses and promised as much as $25,000 if the murders were completed on Friday. According to the affidavit, Steele promised the witness another $100,000 if an insurance policy paid out after his wife's murder.

"Edgar Steele told (the witness) that he has no second thoughts and he wants the plan carried out," the affidavit said. "This statement was made multiple times during the meet."

According to the affidavit, Steele said he would deny knowing the witness if he were caught, but he would compensate the witness's family if Steele was never implicated.

The motive for the alleged plot is unclear. Whelan said she believes the couple is still married and has not separated. Steele's wife was visiting or helping out with a health care issue at her mother's house in Oregon this week, Whelan said.

Calls to the Oregon house were not immediately returned on Friday.

Whelan said the complaint is just a charging document and is not proof of guilt. Steele will likely appear at a preliminary hearing on Monday, and the case must go before a grand jury, she said. Steele was arrested Friday at his Sagle home.

"Neither the FBI or U.S. Attorney's Office would proceed in a case where we didn't feel there was proof to charge," Whelan said.

Steele is in custody on federal felony charges, she said, but she declined to reveal where he is being held.

According to his website, Steele is an author and trial lawyer who graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Law and has a law practice that is "noteworthy for cases that test the limits of constitutional law on behalf of politically incorrect clients." The website also says Steele recently considered a run for Idaho governor.

He unsuccessfully defended the Aryan Nations and its founder, Richard Butler, in a multimillion-dollar lawsuit brought against them in 2000. Steele penned the book "Defensive Racism: An Unapologetic Examination of Racial Differences."

Last year, in response to the shooting of a security guard at the national Holocaust Memorial Museum by neo-Nazi James von Brunn, Steele said, "Why did von Brunn choose to unload at the National Holocaust Museum? Because it is an edifice to one of the most stupendous lies of modern times, paid for and maintained with taxpayer dollars, that's why."

I think that, with his recent column stating his "return" to full-scale pro-White antisemitism, some ADL-friendly jew became a "hit man" and got him popped. I can't imagine for a moment that, if his marriage were on the rocks, he wouldn't just walk away from it, especially at age 64 and in iffy health.

Of course, in the Looking-glass world of contemporary "law enforcement" by the people who brought us Ruby Ridge, Waco and the Murrah Bldg., he can be charged, held and tried on the flimsiest of evidence, and locked away to rot.

Long confinement in an American hospital?

I remember just reading an article by him back in january where he described barely surviving a near fatal heart condition:

A Vietnam-era-- long before PhotoShop, CIA photographer told me, in the early 80's-- also before PhotoShop, that he could have created a convincing photo (shadows and perspective right, etc.) of me doing anything those wanting to get rid of me would have wanted to have a picture of me doing. The CIA, by the way, are the President's homeland and away team. Remember Vince Foster being found across the street from CIA headquarters at Ft. And, by the way, the sanction for a U.S. agent to go anywhere in the world to whack someone deemed a threat to national security is nothing new under the Obama administration. Many of the exceptionally skilled former military, who were obviously willing (Many/most infantry shoot over the enemy's heads), out there, have been contacted by recruiters who were quite explicit: I guarantee that it is not that exclusive of a club.

But consider that what matters for the probable cause statement is not the recording but the witness affidavit. There's a reason that those conducting a surveillance are listening to telephone calls in real time, having an undercover guy "wear a wire" rather than a recorder, etc. Its about someone who can actually testify that something happened.

Photo, audio, and increasingly video evidence is suspect to all but consumers of the so called mass media of news who swallow as voraciously as a largemouth hitting a fast-moving plug. It takes quite a bit to disgorge such hooks. It is from such pools that prosecutors angle for jurors.

That said, little surprises me, these days. I'll take that back: The dreams and even waking thoughts I had after heart surgery that I was told was normal and included "labile emotions," surprised me such that I immediately stopped taking even required aspirin. Had my mother-in-law still been around, rest her soul, I might have shared some dark thoughts that could have been rearranged by my editors.

Furthermore, I've yet to meet an attorney I trust absolutely. And worse, Ed admits coming out of a Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) background, recovering as it were, as did the Branch Davidian Seventh-day Adventists, which might as well be Jews theologically and some of them racially, e.g., SDA darling theologian, also a racial Jew, Clifford Goldstein. I might add that the craziest, most ruthless supremacists I've ever met, were SDA.

A holier-than-thou multi-generational Adventist I thought I knew ended-up an accessory to an attempted murder and then suborned perjury in another probably related murder trial and has spent her life both before and afterward trying to convince everyone she knew that she was a saint herself. She was/is as sick as anyone I've even met. I'd never heard of the SDA religion before. Her mother was a mess and her father wasn't around when she was growing up and it made her man-crazy to the point she's committed multiple felonies. And thanks to a lifetime of brainwashing her arguably adult daughter is now a third world SDA missionary. As a juror, I could entertain how someone deciding to kill her mother timely might not have seemed so much like murder but preventative pest control. I mean, they shoot horses, don't they?

Hopefully the wife and mother weren't dyed-in-the-wool SDA or he's going to have an uphill battle-- those two now being at least maybe suspicious of him and ready to turn state's evidence for God knows what they know about him. But, from what little I know other than his remarkable writing and thinking, I'm betting he's as innocent of the actual elements of murder for hire as its possible to be.

And Steele is clearly a potential threat not only to lawyers & judges, but the Mormons, probably the Adventists, and certainly Jews and Israel, not to mention "national security." Hopefully we're not going to oblige our enemies by starting to eat one of those apparently our own here. As I write at 5pm on Monday, May 31, all day has passed since the early morning reports of the Israeli commando attack on the unarmed ships carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza, and there has been no response from President Obama except to say that he needed to learn "all the facts about this morning's tragic events" and that Israeli prime minister Netanyahu had canceled his plans to meet with him at the White House.

Thus has Obama made America complicit once again in Israel's barbaric war crimes. Just as the US Congress voted to deep-six Judge Goldstone's report on Israel's war crimes committed in Israel's January 2009 invasion of Gaza, Obama has deep-sixed Israel's latest act of barbarism by pretending that he doesn't know what has happened.

No one in the world will believe that Israel attacked ships in international waters carrying Israeli citizens, a Nobel Laureate, elected politicians, and noted humanitarians bringing medicines and building materials to Palestinians in Gaza, who have been living in the rubble of their homes without repairs or medicines since January 2009, without first clearing the crime with its American protector. Without America's protection, Israel, a totally artificial state, could not exist.

No one in the world will believe that America's spy apparatus did not detect the movement of the Israeli attack force toward the aid ships in international waters in an act of piracy, killing 20, wounding 50, and kidnapping the rest.

Obama's pretense at ignorance confirms his complicity.

Once again the US government has permitted the Israeli state to murder good people known for their moral conscience. The Israeli state has declared that anyone with a moral conscience is an enemy of Israel, and every American president except Eisenhower and Carter has agreed.

Obama's 12-hour silence in the face of extreme barbarity is his signal to the controlled corporate media to remain on the sidelines until Israeli propaganda sets the story.

The Israeli story, preposterous as always, is that the humanitarians on one of the ships took two pistols from Israeli commandos, highly trained troops armed with automatic weapons, and fired on the attack force. The Israeli government claims that the commandos' response (70 casualties at last reporting) was justified self-defense. Israel was innocent. Israel did not do anything except drop commandos aboard from helicopters in order to intercept an arms shipment to Gazans being brought in by ships manned by terrorists.

Many Christian evangelicals, brainwashed by their pastors that it is God's will for Americans to protect Israel, will believe the Israeli story, especially when it is unlikely they will ever hear any other. Conservative Americans, especially on Memorial Day when they are celebrating feats of American arms, will admire Israel for its toughness.Here in north Georgia where I am at the moment, I have heard several say, admiringly, "Them, Israelis, they don't put up with nuthin."

Conservative Americans want the US to be like Israel. They do not understand why the US doesn't stop pissing around after nine years and just go ahead and defeat the Taliban in Afghanistan. They don't understand why the US didn't defeat whoever was opposing American forces in Iraq. Conservatives are incensed that America had to "win" the war by buying off the Iraqis and putting them on the US payroll.

Israel murders people and then blames its victims. This appeals to American conservatives, who want the US to do the same.

It is likely that Americans will accept Israeli propagandist Mark Regev's story that Israelis were met by deadly fire when they tried to intercept an arms shipment to Palestinian terrorists from IHH, a radical Turkish Islamist organization hiding under the cover of humanitarian aid. This explanation is crafted to allow Americans to sink back into their stupor.

Americans will never hear from the US media that Turkey's prime minister Erdogan declared that the aid ships were carefully inspected before departure from Turkey and that there were no terrorists or arms aboard:
"I want to say to the world, to the heads of state and the governments, that these boats that left from Turkey and other countries were checked in a strict way under the framework of the rules of international navigation and were only loaded with humanitarian aid."

Turkey is a US ally, a member of NATO. Turkey's cooperation is important to American's plan for world hegemony. Turkey now realizes that the Israeli state is comprised of total evil. Erdogan must wonder about the morality of Israel's American protector. According to a report in antiwar.com (http://antiwar.com/), the Turkish government declared that "future aid ships will be dispatched with a military escort so as to prevent future Israeli attacks."

Will the CIA assassinate Erdogan or pay the Turkish military to overthrow him?

Murat Mercan, head of Turkey's foreign relations committee, said that Israel's claim that there were terrorists aboard the aid ships was Israel's way of covering up its crime. Mercan declared:"Any allegation that the members of this ship is attached to al-Qaeda is a big lie because there are Israeli civilians, Israeli authorities, Israeli parliamentarians on board the ship."

The criminal Israeli state does not deny its act of piracy. Israeli military spokeswoman, Avital Leibovich, confirmed that the attack took place in international waters: "This happened in waters outside of Israeli territory, but we have the right to defend ourselves."

Americans, and their Western European puppet states and the puppet state in Canada, will be persuaded by the servile media to buy the story fabricated by Israeli propaganda that the humanitarian aid ships were manned by terrorists bringing weapons to the Palestinians in Gaza, and that the terrorists posing as humanitarians attacked the force of Israeli commandos with two pistols, clubs, and knives.

The ignorant Americans will swallow this story without a hiccup.

While Steele had a close brush with death, his ruptured aneurysm was completely repaired and he was as good as new. All of his writings have talked about a good family life. It is hard to believe that with his legal training that he would be dumb enough to get involved in anything like this.

Life is funny. Death isn't. Trust me on this one. I died on November 21, 2009. Ironically, just two weeks prior to my death I sent a message out to this list that said, in discussing my sabbatical from any sort of public speaking or appearance during the latter part of the year: "It actually has grown kind of fun to watch the speculation over whether or not I died this summer." It seemed amusing at the time. Little did I know.

On November 21 I was sitting in my study, reading, when I felt a little "pop" in my chest. I sat there for 15 minutes, fearing that I would pass out if I dared try to stand. Finally, I staggered to my feet, got help and rushed to the local hospital emergency room, where I was quickly diagnosed with a condition serious enough to justify being "choppered" to the nearest cardiac specialty hospital unit. In fact, they told me that I very likely would not live long enough to get there. Fortunately, there just happened to be a helicopter parked on the roof at that very time.

The surgeon's team met me in the elevator at the receiving facility and began work then and there, so far gone was I. My blood pressure had gone to zero - technically, I was dead. Nip and tuck, as they say, but somehow they managed to snatch me back. "Seconds," the surgeon later told me, was all that then separated me from eternity. I spent several hours on a heart-lung machine that day, then 9 days unconscious and on a respirator, then another two weeks in the ICU, barely able to move. It has been a long, slow, painful journey back.

Turns out that the 15 minutes I spent sitting at my desk when this first occurred likely saved my life. My surgeon remarked upon the extensive clotting at the point of rupture that served to direct the blood for a time, clotting that would not have occurred had I been moving around immediately.

I didn't have a heart attack, but what is called an "ascending aortic aneurism." The main artery, the aorta, blew out just where it exited my heart, kind of like a garden hose suddenly failing right at the faucet. The surgeon replaced a large section, together with the main heart valve, and has pronounced me "good as new." The odds of my survival were very, very slim - on the order of 3 or 4 per cent. No explanation as to why this happened. Some things just happen.

It wasn't my time, apparently. All my life, I have known that something important is coming - something I just have to live to see. It hasn't happened yet. I had a very significant dream about this when I was 4 years old. Big things are coming. I've told you this repeatedly.

So I have a good excuse for having been silent all this time, folks. Thank you for the inquiries and the kind words expressing support. Will I be back? Yes, eventually. Will I be just as acerbic? Probably worse. Familiarity breeds contempt. After I beat prostate cancer 12 years ago, I became very unimpressed with the disease when others contracted it.

After losing the Aryan Nations case, Steele began openly acknowledging his own anti-Semitic and white supremacist views. He has at various times accused Jews of owning the Federal Reserve Bank, running organized crime “throughout America,” and orchestrating the 9/11 terrorist attacks. In his writings on race Steele asks, “What color are Jews?” He answers, “Jews are the color of avarice and greed. Jews are the color of deception, manipulation and the lust for power. Jews are the color of dishonesty, selfishness and heartlessness.”

Steele also regularly attacks blacks in his books, columns and speeches. He alleges the existence of a “Black-on-White race war” in the U.S., and claims that blacks have “inherited” a distinctly “African” culture of “rape…murder…violence…[and] single-parent families.” He has also called for organized opposition to African Americans in the entertainment industry, asking his readers to join him in boycotting “products advertised with black actors and models,” and “TV shows and movies with black actors.”

Steele publishes a weekly commentary on his Web site, and his writings are also distributed widely through E-mail lists. Steele’s open association with white supremacists has become well-known, and he is a sought-after speaker at conferences of right-wing extremists, including those conducted by the National Alliance, Volksfront, and the Institute for Historical Review. He made public anti-Semitic statements at the Holocaust-denying Barnes Review/American Free Press conference in June 2003, in Washington, D.C.

I have known two Armenians in my lifetime and I like both of them. They were honest and they spoke their minds.

Also, Armenian is an Indo-European language.
I'm not trying to say that we all have to love all Eastern Caucasians all of the time but I can't understand why some who say they are "White Nationalist" discriminate so harshly against their Eastern Caucasian cousins. I recall a brief exchange about 9-11 with a highly educated person from India. I was trying to sow some seeds of doubt in his mind that 9-11 couldn't possibly have happened as it was presented to us by the mass media. I asked him: Do you know that on 9-11 not two but three buildings went down? He didn't know that. Then I asked: So why do you think the collapse of building 7 wasn't covered? His answer was: Well, perhaps it wasn't news worthy. Perhaps - I replied, and never after that brought up the subject of 9-11 with him again.

A North Idaho attorney who defended the Aryan Nations and its founder, Richard Butler, is scheduled to appear in federal court Tuesday on charges he arranged to have his wife and mother-in-law killed.

Edgar J. Steele, 64, was arrested Friday at his Sagle home and charged in the murder-for-hire plot. That was the day the women were to be killed in a car crash meant to look like an accident, according to a probable-cause affidavit.

The hearing had been set for Monday afternoon in federal court in Coeur d’Alene but was postponed a day after the courthouse received a letter containing a suspicious white powder and was evacuated. Federal offices in Spokane and Bellevue also received the suspicious deliveries, and the FBI is investigating.

A confidential witness occasionally employed by Steele met with the FBI Wednesday and told agents Steele would pay him to murder the women, according to the Idaho Statesman.

The witness said Steele had discussed a list of people he wanted dead, including his wife and her mother, six months earlier, the newspaper reported. The witness agreed to the plot and accepted travel money, court documents say.

According to the affidavit, the witness was supposed to kill the women Friday because Steele had an alibi for that day. So agents concealed a device on the informant and recorded Steele planning the murders, the document said.

“The United States magistrate had found probable cause for the offense,” said Traci Whelan, an assistant U.S. attorney for Idaho. “As for the timing of the arrest, it was prudent, given he had apparently set a deadline for it.”

Steele is well known from his work for hate groups such as the Aryan Nations and other high-profile clients, including the McGuckin family, who held off police during a 2001 Idaho standoff. He’s also known for vocal anti-semitic and racist rants on the Internet.

He looks scared and not in good health to me. He's certainly under duress and no telling what they're doing to him or how he's being 'housed.'

Keep in mind that he is likely being held as a Federal prisoner in county jail. Also keep in mind that the mug shot was taken BEFORE they started working on him.

I hate to say this, but Edgar Steele is not some kind of towel-head mud, like Khalid Sheikh Mohammed for example, he is an Aryan. So it won't take 8 years of waterboarding to scare the wits out of him, especially considering his health condition.

Jails are notorious for refusing to treat medical conditions of inmates. For whatever reason they do this, I have trouble believing they are allowing him access to his prescribed medication. They do this sort of quiet killing even when the System-foe, *or* two-bit criminal, isn't resented by the average slob.
Namely a former senator or congressman who was framed and imprisoned for defying Israel. He managed to survive his incarceration, even when they tried to force him to take medicine for a "twisted aorta", something he didn't even have! It would have killed him. He was on Alex Jones.

This incident is significant regards of whether Steele is guilty or not and if guilty to what degree he was set up. The fact that so many high profile WN have been prosecuted for "planing", "conspiring", "threatening", "endangering", having few images on their computer, thinking, posting, speaking, ... indicates that something is very wrong. Interesting, that it seems that known off the dangerous NW have never committed a crime beyond a thought/speech "crime".

Given his education level, knowledge of the law, his displayed caution, etc when confronting the HATE make Steele's situation the most high profile and troubling. One thing that must be true about Steele is that he must have led a very legal and highly moral life. If he had not, by now all his skeletons would have been exposed in an attempt to destroy his reputation.

The Railroading of Matt Hale

I've held my tongue on the Matt Hale case until now because I have agreed with him to serve as defense counsel in his anticipated retrial.


You see, Hale was declared a domestic terrorist and has been held incommunicado under provisions of the draconian and woefully-misnamed Patriot Act. Those associated with the case have been required to sign "SAM" (Special Administrative Procedure") documents which require their public silence. The Feds mean business, too, as lawyers are sitting in federal prison cells right now, accused of violating SAM agreements in other cases. I haven't signed a SAM document in Hale's case yet because I have not taken on an official role. Of course, I haven't been given direct access to Hale, either. We have been forced to communicate in writing, by letter...when my letters haven't been denied to Hale and returned by the authorities, that is. Even so, an attorney-client relationship has existed between Hale and myself for some time now.

I bit my tongue throughout my defense of Richard Butler and the Aryan Nations several years ago, too, following conventional wisdom in the legal field. That was a mistake and the last, I vowed, that I would make in using media available in a high-profile case. While I sat and watched, Butler was tried and convicted in the media. Mind you, in retrospect, it is clear he was a goner before I ever took on the case, but it didn't help that I didn't sally forth on every TV and radio show I could find, to make his case and try to level the playing field.

Because of what I am about to tell you, the Feds can be expected to use this SAM business in an attempt to bar me from handling Hale's case if he manages to persuade an appellate court to give him the new trial he deserves. Nevertheless, someone in the legal field has to stand up for Matt Hale before things go any further. Nobody else will do so, it seems, so I take it upon myself even though it means that Hale likely will have to represent himself in any retrial. And I'm going to continue to speak out on Hale's case to all who will listen. He deserves a defense and he simply hasn't been getting it. In fact, Matt Hale has been on the business end of one of the most massive railroad jobs I have seen occur in modern American courts (and that is saying something!).

Obviously, what motivates me to change position today is the lynching Hale is receiving in the media as a result of the murder of Judge Lefkow's husband and mother.

First, I offer sincere condolences to Judge Lefkow. Nothing could possibly justify what has been done to her family and herself. Nothing. Illegal acts as heinous as murder are the final resort of those both brutish and misinformed. I cannot more clearly condemn what has taken place, regardless of who is responsible (and I think I know where to point the finger, as you will learn shortly).

Having said all that, let me next say that Matt Hale is innocent. He is innocent of having anything to do with the Lefkow murders. Furthermore, Hale is innocent of the charge of conspiracy to murder Judge Lefkow, for which he was convicted and now sits in jail, awaiting sentencing. Additionally, Hale is innocent of the original charge of trademark infringement which supposedly led Hale to take part in a plot to kill the judge. Please pay close attention, because I am going to prove all these things to you today, in this very essay, with but a smattering of simple logic and the application of a couple of well-founded principles of law.

At every turn, for years now, Matt Hale has been railroaded, ramrodded and gulled by the very system which now presumes to pass sentence and punish him for crimes he did not commit. Matt Hale is a political prisoner in every sense of the word. Keep an open mind for the next few minutes and see if you don't agree.
Let's take things chronologically:

1. Matt Hale headed up the World Church of the Creator (WCOTC), a branch of the "Creativity" religion. Creativity is a bona-fide, court-recognized, non-Christian religion, despite its highly-controversial and self-avowed (http://www.creator.org/faq.html) White Supremacist nature (see Peterson vs. Wilmur Communications, 205 F.Supp.2d 1014, 2002 - go here (http://murphylibrary.uwlax.edu/ereserves/Gardner/Bus750Spr05/Finals/Christopher%20Lee%20Peterson%20vs%20Wilmur%20Communications.pdf) for court's opinion). Founded in 1973 by Ben Klassen, Hale resurrected WCOTC in 1996 and ran it continuously under that name through 2002. Violence was a hallmark of Klassen's stewardship, whereas under Hale WCOTC members generally behaved themselves...with one notable exception (see 3, below).

2. Matt Hale was wrongfully denied the right he earned to be a lawyer. In June 1998, Hale graduated from the Southern Illinois University School of Law and soon thereafter passed the Illinois State Bar. He was denied admission to the Bar, and the license to practice law he had earned, though his record was spotless. The denial was on the basis of Hale's racial beliefs (part and parcel of his court-recognized religion, don't forget), though Blacks in prison for racially-motivated murders of Whites have earned law degrees and been welcomed with open arms to the practice of law upon their parole.

3. A WCOTC adherent went on a killing spree on July 2, 1999, the day that Hale announced he had been denied admission to the Illinois state bar by an administrative appeals board. Though the timing is more than suggestive, there never has been a hint that Hale suggested or countenanced the murderous rampage by Benjamin Smith directed at Blacks, Jews and Asians, which left two dead and nine wounded.

4. WCOTC's very name was stolen by the ADL, with the aid of the courts. In 2000, an Oregon corporation, Te-Ta-Ma, secretly founded and funded by the ADL through its Regional Director, Richard Hirschhaut, applied for and received a trademark on the phrase "Church of the Creator." Shortly thereafter, in May 2000, the ADL filed suit in Illinois Federal District Court through its straw man, Te-Ta-Ma, against Hale and WCOTC for trademark infringement. Judge Lefkow ruled against the ADL, which appealed her ruling and persuaded a three-judge panel to issue an order directing Judge Lefkow to reverse herself and grant judgment to Te-Ta-Ma. Lefkow followed orders, as she legally was bound to do, and subsequently threatened to hold Hale in contempt for failing to turn over every publication which bore the WCOTC name. Hale responded that he possessed none, as he had stepped aside as head of WCOTC to concentrate on the court appeal of his bar admission denial. As Hale prepared to defend himself on the contempt charge, he was arrested by the FBI and charged with conspiracy to commit the murder of Judge Lefkow...the very Federal judge who previously had ruled in his favor, not of any of the appellate justices who sided with the ADL against him.

5. Hale's entrapment was engineered by the FBI. An FBI plant, Anthony Evola, wormed his way into Hale's confidence and was named head of WCOTC's security force (Hale and his followers regularly received death threats and had been the targets of multiple assaults and property vandalizations through the years). Evola secretly recorded conversations with Hale that were, at worst, noncommittal concerning Evola's offer to "exterminate...the Jew rat" (a male Jew rat, as transcripts made clear). At one point, Hale was recorded as saying, "I'm going to fight within the law." Also, note that, while Judge Lefkow is married to a Jew, she herself is not Jewish, a fact known at the time to both Hale and the FBI.

6. Hale's trial was a sham. The FBI plant, Evola, testified that, during a conversation wherein he asked if Hale wanted him to "get the rat," Hale nodded affirmatively. Never was any evidence presented other than that single bit of testimony concerning Hale's alleged approval of the FBI scheme. A good deal of circumstantial and highly prejudicial evidence, especially concerning Benjamin Smith's rampage, was allowed, however. Directly upon the State resting its case, Hale's attorney, noted (http://pview.findlaw.com/view/1138141_1?noconfirm=0&channel=LP) Chicago criminal defense lawyer and former Federal prosecutor Thomas Durkin, rose and rested Hale's defense without calling a single witness or introducing a single shred of evidence. Durkin reportedly made numerous remarks derogatory to his own client throughout the trial both during the State's case and during closing argument. I understand the ploy: by acting as he did, Durkin presumably hoped to make plain the weakness of the State's case. Problem is, Durkin didn't understand how juries respond to politically-incorrect defendants (though, prior to the trial, Durkin personally assured me that he well understood the situation in which he found Matt Hale, an assurance I passed on to Hale's family and that played a large part in their retaining Durkin; an assurance that retrospect now shows me to have been either a lie or merely incompetent).

I can just imagine the conversations in the jury room during deliberations:

"He never took the stand to defend himself, so he must be guilty."

"His lawyer kept putting him down and then didn't even present a defense, so he must be guilty."

"The Feds never lie, so he must be guilty."

"Nasty White Supremacist - he must be guilty."

Remember the composition of the jury: Black, Jewish and Asian, the very sort of people previously targeted by Benjamin Smith; the very sort of people that Hale repeatedly was shown to have denigrated down through the years.

Why was there no change of venue sought and granted, in order to get the trial moved out of the highly-inflammatory Chicago area, where the jury composition was highly predictable?

Why did lawyer Durkin put his own client down in front of the jury and then decline to put on even a bare case?

Why wasn't Matt Hale called to the witness stand? After all, Hale is a lawyer and could be expected to carefully couch his answers and be on the lookout for prosecutorial traps.

Why would Hale solicit the murder of the only judge who had ruled in his favor?

How, exactly, did Hale engineer the murder of Lefkow's family members, while his own family and lawyers, including myself, have been denied access to him?

Judge Lefkow ruled correctly in Hale's favor in the first instance - it was the appellate panel that was wrong. I studied intellectual property law extensively at UCLA under the man who quite literally wrote "the book": Professor Mel Nimmer. If Mel Nimmer were alive today, he would tell you about the established practice in this sort of case of disallowing such a trademark in geographic areas in which prior usage of it by another could be established, just as had been done by Hale and WCOTC.

Elementary law supports Hale in his quest for a law license and to protect the name WCOTC. Elementary logic disputes any inference that he wanted Judge Lefkow dead. If he wanted a judge dead for the trademark ruling, he had three candidates that apparently he never considered. Why, then, would he consider Judge Lefkow?

That brings us to the Lefkow murders this past week. Judge Lefkow's husband and mother were executed in the basement of their home with a .22-caliber weapon. The weapon's caliber is of significance because the .22 is a favored weapon of the highly-skilled assassin. When used with subsonic ammunition, a .22-caliber weapon makes only a slight "pop" in the background, usually not noticeable, even, to people standing nearby. It requires extreme accuracy to be effective, which, in turn, requires extreme closeness to the victim. Having personally had to shoot pigs with a .22 rifle, preparatory to butchering them on my Idaho ranch, I can attest to how precisely even a brain shot must be made. In short, it requires a trained, seasoned assassin to kill others with a .22-caliber weapon.

Furthermore, two men with "military-style" haircuts were shooed away from an area adjacent to the judge's house earlier in the day by someone who noted that they were parked illegally in a red zone. Recall all the hoopla about Mossad hit squads roaming the world, including America, committing murders of those considered to be enemies of Israel? Recall how they have been fingered in more than one "false-flag" operation lately? Recall all the Israeli "art students" and "moving company employees" in the past two or three years, deported from America before they could be prosecuted for crimes they had committed?

Cui bono (who benefits)? In reality, who benefits from the execution of the Lefkow family members? Who are the alleged mortal enemies of Matt Hale, the man now being lynched by the media?

Cui bono? Look at the CNN sketch. Does that man look Semitic to you? He does to me.

Calif. bill would target spouses who hire hit men

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The story behind the legislation reads like a movie pitch.

The wife of a Southern California police detective, distraught because she had lost custody of her children, tries to hire a hit man from the Vagos motorcycle gang to kill him.

Instead, gang members alert police, who disguise themselves as biker thugs and secretly tape a conversation with her, leading to the wife's arrest and ultimate conviction for solicitation of murder.

But later on, in divorce court, she is awarded half the couple's property, even though she tried to have her husband whacked. He then calls Sacramento, determined to change the divorce law.

A bill scheduled to be heard Tuesday in a state legislative committee seeks to close what its author says is a loophole in the state's no-fault divorce code. In part, the legislation will specify that spouses who solicit the murder of their husband or wife are not entitled to collect financial rewards in divorce proceedings.

The bill was prompted by John Pomroy, a police detective in Pomona, about 30 miles east of Los Angeles. His wife collected about $70,000 from their estate after she was released from prison in 2004.

"If you commit arson on your house, you don't get the insurance money. You go to prison and all sorts of things happen to you," Pomroy said in an interview. "But if you try to kill someone that is your spouse, the current law allows you to collect something."

State law says that if spouses are convicted of murdering or attempting to murder their husband or wife, they are not entitled to reap any financial benefits during divorce proceedings. But if they hire someone else to do the dirty deed for them, their victims' assets are not protected.

The bill would amend the law to include husbands or wives who solicit the murder of their spouse.

"It's just a glaring case where California law as it is now can reward someone who plans vicious murder," said Assemblyman Marty Block, D-San Diego, who introduced the bill, AB2674. "In a way, the current law rewards the spouse for committing this kind of crime against the person they're married to or in the process of divorcing."

Divorce laws vary from state to state. In California, a couple's shared assets are generally split evenly during a divorce.

That's the case in most states, said Krystal Callaway Jaime, supervising attorney for the Family Protection Clinic at the University of California, Davis.

"This bill is very, very necessary," Jaime said. "It seems obscure, but this does happen more frequently than people realize."

After being married for a decade, Pomroy said his marriage dissolved when his wife became addicted to pain killers after injuring her foot in a dirt bike accident. She later turned to alcohol, and finally illegal drugs, he said.

He said they separated when she became physically abusive. He lived in the basement of the police department for a month after moving out of the couple's house and later gained custody of their children.

When his wife faced losing the children and her husband's monetary support, she solicited members of the Vagos motorcycle gang living down the street. She said she wanted them to kill her husband while he was on duty, Pomroy said.

"I think she felt like she had to hurry up and get rid of me, because she was going to lose our sons," Pomroy said.

The Victorville District Attorney's Office said Pomroy's ex-wife pleaded guilty to soliciting others to murder her husband in early 2003.

An official at the Central California Women's Facility in Chowchilla on Friday said Pomroy's ex-wife entered the prison in February 2003 and served time until she was paroled in March 2004. She was returned to prison twice since then and is currently on parole, said the official, who was not authorized to speak publicly but relayed the details of the woman's corrections department record.

Attempts to contact her were not successful.

Michael O'Brien, a Covina-based attorney who represented Pomroy's wife during the trial for solicitation of murder, agreed with the details of Pomroy's story.

But O'Brien said he doesn't believe Pomroy's wife was going to follow through with the murderous plot. He said she was broke, desperate and strung out after years of drug abuse, and couldn't afford to pay someone to kill Pomroy.

"She tried to steal a basket full of groceries for her family and got caught," he said. "She was at the end of her rope when these events took place."

During their separation, their house went into foreclosure and his wife said the cars were stolen, Pomroy said. His bank account, to which she had access, was drained. The only money he had left was in his pension account, and she was awarded half its value.

O'Brien said it was fair that Pomroy's wife got the money because she had supported him during the early years of their marriage by raising the children while he became a police officer.

But Pomroy, who still fears his ex-wife, disagreed.

I am very skeptical about the governments charges. I find it hard to imagine that a person can advise people for decades about how to follow the law, that a person could stay out of trouble until an old man practically, no offense to the others in his age group, but suddenly and so precipitously to undertake such a bold crime? Wow, excuse me but most people do not just jump into the deep end of crime at sixty plus years of age. Bizarre and implausible.

At the same time the government will have plenty of chances to prove its case. People do flake out from time to time. People get mad at their loved ones. We are all human. At the same time it is a long way to go from mad to solicitation. Frankly I find the charges very very implausible. Also the government has had him under the microscope for his views now for a long time and these unlikely charges seems dubious from the start.

The government has to prove its charges beyond a reasonable doubt. That is a high standard. In our system you get a lot of chances to dispute things. A case has a lot of chances to go by the wayside. We shall see. A sting can look like an entrapment to a jury who may just put it to bed. Also his wife is a key witness. it might all come down to her. I sure hope nobody gets flaky like BW and bothers her. Absolutely no contact from any of Steele's admirers would be a good idea.

Hard to judge this without knowing more facts than we do.

On one hand, the feds are corrupt, and are willing to go beyond the law to destroy reputations and lives of their critics. On the other hand, Steele is a master of rhetoric, a trial lawyer with the verbal and financial wherewithal to defend himself, making a setup considerably more difficult than for an average person.

I don't know anything of Steele's personal life beyond what he mentioned in his rants, but I don't ever recall seeing anything about him being alienated from his wife or family.

One of his more notable cases involved his defense, in 2000, of the Aryan Nations and its leader Richard Butler in a multi-million dollar lawsuit brought about by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
The lawsuit was brought on behalf of Victoria and Jason Keenan, who were attacked by guards at the Aryan Nations compound in 1998.
The Keenans won a more than $6 Million judgment against Butler and the Aryan Nations, effectively bankrupting the organization and forcing them out of their compound near Hayden Lake.

Steele, who declined to comment on this story, is being held in the Kootenai County Jail. When contacted for comment on this report Steele’s wife Cyndi also declined to comment.

COEUR D'ALENE -- A suspicious device has been found on a car owned by Edgar and Cyndi Steele when a woman brought the car to the Fast Lane Quik Lube on Government Way in Coeur d’Alene. Steele was arrested last week for attempting to hire a hitman to kill his wife and mother-in-law; he had wanted it to look like they were killed in a car crash.

The Coeur d'Alene Police Department reports that a woman showed up at the Fast Lane Quik Lube, located at 484 West Bosanko Avenue, for an oil change. As staff members were working to remove the oil plug they noticed a suspicious device underneath the car.

They pushed the vehicle out of the business and called police. In turn the Spokane County Bomb Squad was called in and they are in the process of sending in a robot to check the device on the car's undercarriage. Authorities evacuated a nearby coffee stand and car wash as a precaution while a Numerica Credit Union branch is locked down. Government Way at Bosanko is closed and there are detours in place around the scene.

Meanwhile, reporter Tania Dall noted that the vehicle with the suspicious device underneath it was a Mitsubishi Endeavor with Idaho license plates. The make, model and license plates of the vehicle match the description of the vehicle owned by the Steeles in the Affidavit of Probable Cause obtained by the Idaho Statesman earlier this week.

That complaint was filed in connection with the arrest of Edgar Steele, who had solicited a long-time acquaintance to kill his wife Cyndi and his mother-in-law. Steele, according to those court documents, wanted his wife and mother-in-law killed in a car crash last Friday while his wife visited her mother in Oregon and wanted their deaths to look like an accident.

It's not who the woman was that was driving the Mitsubishi. Edgar Steele is currently in custody in the Kootenai County Jail.

Federal prosecutors want Edgar J. Steele held without bail before his trial on murder-for-hire charges. Steele, 64, was charged Friday - the same day prosecutors say he wanted an acquaintance to kill his wife and mother-in-law in a car crash meant to look like an accident.

Steele is well-known from his work for hate groups such as the Aryan Nations and other high-profile clients, including the McGuckin family, who held off police during a 2001 Idaho standoff. He's also known for vocal anti-Semitic and racist rants on the Internet.

Steele unsuccessfully defended the Aryan Nations and its founder, Richard Butler, in a multimillion-dollar lawsuit brought against them in 2000. That loss ultimately bankrupted the Aryan Nations.

A confidential witness occasionally employed by Steele told FBI agents last week that Steele would pay him to murder the women - as much as $125,000, if an insurance policy paid off - say court documents obtained by the Statesman and later sealed by the court.

"Edgar Steele told (the witness) that he has no second thoughts and he wants the plan carried out," the affidavit said. "This statement was made multiple times during the meet."

Steele was scheduled to be in court Monday, but prosecutors asked for more time and asked a federal judge for a hearing on whether to hold Steele without bail, saying he is a flight risk and the crime he's charged with carries a maximum sentence of life in prison or death if he's convicted.

According to court documents, the witness was supposed to kill the women Friday because Steele had an alibi for that day. So agents concealed a device on the informant and recorded Steele planning the murders, the document said.

Steele's wife declined to comment to the Statesman when reached by cell phone on Monday.

Bomb-scare vehicle registered to Steele

A bomb squad has removed an apparent explosive device from a car registered to Edgar Steele, the North Idaho man facing charges he arranged to hire someone to kill his wife and mother-in-law.

The black 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor Limited pulled into the Fast Lane Quick Lube at West Bosanko Avenue and U.S. Highway 95 in Coeur d’Alene, at about 12:30 p.m.

A worker saw what appeared to be an explosive device under the car, removed the vehicle from the shop bay and called police, prompting an evacuation of nearby businesses and the closure of Highway 95. The highway since has reopened.

Steele is making a first appearance in federal court in Coeur d’Alene this afternoon after he was arrested Friday in the alleged murder-for-hire plot.

He is the attorney who unsuccessfully defended the Aryan Nations in the landmark 2000 case that bankrupted the racist organization.

A bomb squad unit from Spokane is on the scene, said Lt. Jay Heintz of the Coeur d’Alene Police Department.

Highway 95 was closed in both directions while the bomb squad removed the device.

Bosanko remains closed from Highway 95 west to North Fruitland Lane. A Numerica Credit Union branch across Bosanko was closed, as was a car wash and coffee stand just west of the lube shop.

Fast Lane employees described the customer as a women in her 50s. The bomb was a 1-foot piece of galvanized pipe with cap screws, with two fuses attached to the exhaust system.

Fast Lane technician Josh Young said, “We were all down there gawking at it.”

Co-worker Kevin Doll found the device. “I brought her (the owner) down there to show it to her. She was surprised to see it. She made comments about death treats in her family.”

He described it as a “big firecracker.”

Charles Tyron, another technician, said the car’s driver was “lucky it didn’t hot enough to ignite.”

For Tyron, the incident marked an eventful first week of work. “Way to get initiated in into the work, to find a pipe bomb on a customer’s car.”

Steele had been scheduled to appear Monday in U.S. District Court, but the hearing was delayed until today after the U.S. attorney’s office in the federal courthouse in Coeur d’Alene received a letter containing a suspicious white powder and was evacuated. Federal offices in Spokane and Bellevue received similar deliveries, and investigators concluded the powder was not dangerous.

Steele, 64, was arrested Friday at his Sagle, Idaho, home following an investigation last week conducted by the North Idaho Violent Crime Task Force, said Traci Whelan, an assistant U.S. attorney.

The man Steele allegedly hired to murder the women met with the FBI on Wednesday and told agents about the plot. The man said Steele had discussed a list of people he wanted dead, including his wife and her mother.

A probable-cause affidavit said the witness was supposed to kill the women Friday in a car crash meant to look like an accident, the newspaper reported. Agents concealed a device on the informant and recorded Steele planning the murders, the affidavit said.

Steele has been charged with using interstate facilities for murder-for-hire. The maximum penalty is 10 years in prison, possibly accompanied by a fine. If personal injury had resulted, the penalty rises to a maximum of 20 years; if someone had died, the crime is punishable by death or life imprisonment.

Steele represented the Aryan Nations and its founder, Richard Butler, in the case that returned a $6.3 million verdict bankrupting the organization. In 2004, Steele was a featured speaker at a gathering of people who believe the Holocaust never occurred. He called the claim that six million Jews died in World War II at the hands of Adolf Hitler a “pattern of lies.”

Steele regularly espouses anti-Semitic and racist views on his website, ConspiracyPenPal.com. On May 21, for example, he mused about whether he should finish writing a book about “Jews and their role in the destruction of Western civilization, the spectacle of which is now on view throughout the world.”

He also called for guillotines to be erected across the country “as the French did two centuries ago, with the bankers, politicians and other establishment mainstays being cycled through them.” He finishes the entry by saying, “so many to offend, so little time and with such vitriol that has built up within me of late. What should I do?”

My first gut instinct, he was set up, now way he'd be that stupid as wise as he is to the governments tactics in dealing with any enemies of the Jews.

My gut instinct upon seeing his arrest photo, he did it. I don't know why I think that and I know it's a lot to infer from one moment in time but that was my feeling.

After heart issues you're ability to make good decisions goes down drastically as the first place that you're body shuts down is your frontal lobe, the least crucial part of your brain for survival but crucial in concentration and high IQ tasks. And he had extreme issues, his freakin aorta blew out.

Maybe the government approached his informant and cooked the whole scheme up while he was still not functioning at 100%. I hope that's not what happened but I could sure see the Feds preying on the guy like that.

Many people thought Edgar Steele went off the deep end in 2002, when, after unsuccessfully defending the neo-Nazi Aryan Nations and its late leader in a lawsuit, he wrote the coming-out essay, “It’s the Jews, Stupid!” After all, the man had spent most of his life up to that point as an obscure corporate accountant and, later, a small-time lawyer in California and then Idaho. Now, he began to describe himself as the “attorney for the damned,” rail on about “predatory” Jews, accuse the government of a 9/11 conspiracy, and predict a bloody race war.

But that may not have been the half of it. Today, Steele is expected to appear at a preliminary hearing in Idaho after being arrested Friday and charged with trying to pay a confidential witness to murder his wife of a quarter century — the mother of his three children — and her mother. Steele, 64, tried to pay the witness to carry out the killings on Friday, when he had an alibi, according to a probable cause affidavit. The Idaho Statesman also reports that Steele had allegedly been talking to the witness — and paid $500 travel money in advance — about the murders for six months. He also allegedly mentioned other people he wanted dead.

The witness told the FBI that Steele had promised up to $25,000 to carry out the murders, adding that the attorney said he would furnish another $100,000 if an insurance policy on his wife paid out. Steele also allegedly said that if the witness were caught, Steele would take care of the witness’ family in return for silence.

No motive for the plot was revealed. A prosecutor said she believed the couple were still married and not separated. There seems to have been no public indication of anger on Steele’s part toward his wife. “My wife and my kids — they are my rock,” he wrote in an otherwise bloody-minded, July 29, 2006, essay. (In the same essay, he bemoans the fact that his own father “believ[es] that I am a nut case.”)

According to the affidavit, the women were to be killed in a car crash the witness would arrange. The witness, after informing authorities last week that the plan was to be put in motion Friday, was sent to a meeting with Steele wearing a recording device. Authorities said they had recordings of Steele discussing details of the planned murders. “Edgar Steele told [the witness] that he has no second thoughts and he wants the plan carried out,” the affidavit said. “This statement was made multiple times during the meet.”

Steele served in the Coast Guard, got a master’s degree in business and was an accountant in San Francisco before changing careers and getting a law degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, law school in 1982. He moved in the mid-1980s to Idaho, where he worked in obscurity as a lawyer until taking the Aryan Nations case in 2000. The group was being sued by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) on behalf of a woman and her son who were attacked by Aryan security guards, but Steele portrayed it as an attempt to crush free speech. A jury did not agree, however, and imposed a $6.3 million judgment on the Aryan Nations and its leader, Richard Butler, who died four years later. The group subsequently dissolved into small, squabbling factions, becoming a shadow of its former self.

“We always thought that Edgar had a few screws loose,” said Richard Cohen, the president of SPLC and a lawyer who was part of the SPLC’s legal team in the case and came to know Steele. “But we never would have pegged him as a killer.”

Steele, who wrote the 2004 book Defensive Racism, seemed to grow more radical, and more conspiracy-oriented, as the years passed. But there was little to suggest that he was prepared to murder his own family members. He, did, however, have this to say in an April 1, 2008, essay: “Welcome to my mind. This is the way it works. As I told my wife before we got married: I’ll make you two promises. First, I’ll never hit you. Second, it will never be boring.”

Mechanics at the business identified that woman as Cyndi Steele, Edgar Steele's wife. As mechanics were working to remove the oil plug they noticed a suspicious device underneath the car.

They said that as soon as they found the device Cyndi became extremely concerned and told the mechanics to get out. The mechanics pushed the vehicle out of the business and called police. In turn the Spokane County Bomb Squad was called in to check the device on the car and aid in securing it.

A suspicious device has been found on a car owned by Edgar and Cyndi Steele when a woman brought the car to the Fast Lane Quik Lube on Government Way in Coeur d'Alene.

Steele was arrested last week for attempting to hire a hitman to kill his wife and mother-in-law. He had wanted it to look like they were killed in a car crash.

The Coeur d'Alene Police Department reports a woman showed up at the Fast Lane Quik Luben at 484 West Bosanko Ave. for an oil change. As staff members were working to remove the oil plug, they noticed a suspicious device underneath the car.

They pushed the vehicle out of the business and called police, who, in turn, alerted the Spokane County Bomb Squad. Squad members are in the process of sending in a robot to check the device on the car's undercarriage.

Authorities evacuated a nearby coffee stand and car wash as a precaution while a Numerica Credit Union branch is locked down. Government Way at Bosanko is closed and there are detours in place around the scene.

The vehicle with the suspicious device underneath it is a Mitsubishi Endeavor with Idaho license plates. The make, model and license plates of the vehicle match the description of the vehicle owned by the Steeles in the statement of probable cause obtained by the Idaho Statesman earlier this week.

That complaint was filed in connection with the arrest of Edgar Steele, who had solicited a long-time acquaintance to kill his wife and his mother-in-law.

Steele, according to those court documents, wanted his wife and mother-in-law killed in a car crash last Friday while his wife visited her mother in Oregon and wanted their deaths to look like an accident.

Coeur d’Alene auto shop employees found a pipe bomb attached to an SUV belonging to the alleged victim in a murder plot Tuesday, just hours before her husband pleaded not guilty to a murder-for-hire charge in federal court.

Police confirmed that the device removed Tuesday from a car registered to Edgar J. Steele, who has been in custody since Friday, was explosive and required detonation by a Spokane bomb squad.

The discovery came just hours before Steele, 64, acted as his own attorney during a 45-minute hearing in U.S. District Court attended by his wife and son.

Steele, known for his unsuccessful defense of the Aryan Nations in the landmark 2000 case that bankrupted the racist group, pleaded with U.S. District Court Judge Candy Dale to release him from jail before next week’s bail hearing to tend to his clients and “put my affairs in order.”

“I’m certainly no threat to witnesses or jurors and there’s no evidence – absolutely no evidence – to support that,” Steele said.

But Assistant U.S. Attorney Traci Whelan told Dale that developments “within the last few hours” show Steele is “a substantial risk to the public,” and the judge ordered Steele held pending next week’s hearing.

Whelan was referring to the discovery of a bomb on the black 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor Limited that a woman drove to the Fast Lane Quick Lube at West Bosanko Avenue and U.S. Highway 95 in Coeur d’Alene, about 12:30 p.m. That same car was targeted in an alleged murder plot authorities say was planned for last Friday.

A worker saw what appeared to be a pipe bomb attached to the bottom of the car, removed the vehicle from the shop bay and called police, prompting an evacuation of nearby businesses and a closure of U.S. 95.

A bomb squad unit from Spokane detonated the device, said Lt. Jay Heintz of the Coeur d’Alene Police Department. It was deemed to be explosive, but Heintz provided no additional detail.

Police also were looking at another car parked at the lube shop that may contain evidence, Heintz said.

The bomb was a 1-foot piece of galvanized pipe with cap screws, with two fuses attached to the exhaust system, shop employees said.

Workers said they were more stunned than shaken when they discovered it during a routine chassis inspection, which comes with an oil change.

“Usually, we find things like sticks,” said technician Josh Young, who first spotted the device. “We’re talking Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Nothing ever happens like this.”

Co-worker Charles Tyron said, “We were all down there gawking at it.”

Young said, “I brought her (the driver) down to show it to her. She was surprised to see it. She made comments about death threats. Her family had some issue.”

Tyron said the car’s driver was “lucky it didn’t get hot enough to ignite.”

Steele’s wife and son were at the federal courthouse in Coeur d’Alene about 4:30 p.m. for his first court appearance, where he asked to be released while awaiting a bail hearing scheduled for next Tuesday. The judge declined and ordered Steele not to contact his mother-in-law and wife.

Steele called the order “an unconscionable” assault on his marriage and asked Dale to consult Steele’s wife and son before ruling, saying they “are in no danger from me.

“They know me far better than the U.S. government does,” Steele said. “The United States government is doing everything in its power to try to drive a wedge between me and my wife,”

Steele’s wife and son, who appeared to be in his early 20s, declined interviews but spoke with Whelan at the hearing and communicated with Steele before the no-contact order.

Steele’s wife cried after the hearing and slammed her hand against a wall outside the courtroom.

“I need to be allowed to talk to my husband – I need to not be stripped of my car,” she said to court officials.

She met with federal authorities in the U.S. attorney’s office before being driven from the building. Authorities said she wasn’t in protective custody early that afternoon, but it’s unclear if that changed after the bomb was discovered.

Steele was scheduled to appear in court Monday, but the hearing was delayed after the U.S. attorney’s office in the federal courthouse in Coeur d’Alene received a letter containing a suspicious white powder and was evacuated. There’s no indication the powder is connected to Steele’s case.

Steele is charged with use of interstate commerce in the commission of murder for hire; the man he allegedly hired told the FBI of the plot, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The informant had known Steele for several years and said he heard him talk six months ago about people he wanted to kill, including his wife and mother-in-law, who lives in Oregon. The informant said he was to be paid $25,000 to make the murders appear to be automobile accidents. If Steele collected on an insurance policy, the informant would receive an additional $100,000, according to the affidavit.

The informant met with Steele in a FBI-monitored meeting June 9 at Steele’s home at 1569 Talache Road, about 10 miles south of Sandpoint near Shepherd Lake. The murders were planned for Friday; Steele said “that if the Black Endeavor were to leave he guaranteed that his wife would be driving it,” according to affidavit.

Steele gave the informant $400 to cover travel expenses to Oregon, which the informant gave to the FBI, according to the affidavit.

The informant met with Steele again on Thursday, this time wearing a recording device. The affidavit says Steele told the informant “he would receive payment when confirmation of death was received and Edgar Steele was not considered a suspect.”

Nothing suprises me anymore concerning what our criminal law enforcement will do. I used to back the badge, but I see they are just as bad as the politicians and have no dignity or conscience as to what is true or moral. They sit around and whack off while trying to lure people to commit crimes that "they" are already committing. Hide behind a badge and use corruption to hurt ordinary folks. Yes I know, there are some good lawmen and honest agents, but they are the few, very few. The court is no different. it's all about power and money. How many weeks of planning would be needed to assure success? Seems like the "confidential" informant would have only had a short period of time to make his (ops his/her) plans? How long had Steele's wife been planing the trip?

What is the likely of success if "confidential" informant was doing this for the first time? Why would Steele have confidence that "confidential" informant would be psychologically able to deal with the killing of two people who did nothing to him?

How familiar would the individual who was going to cause the accident need to be with the road and surrounding area were the accident was to occur? Is the traffic heavy, is the in wooded area, etc. Seems likely the "confidential" informant may have had no idea and may have been completely unfamiliar with the area (Oregon) were the accident was to occur?

How familiar would the individual need to be with daily routine of the persons to be in the accident? Since Steele's wife was just visiting her mother-in-law, there would have been no daily routine for the "confidential" informant to plans from. Does the mother-in-law own a car and if so wouldn't there be a chance of the Steele's wife and mother-in-law could have used that car during their visit?

Was the "confidential" informant going to randomly follow his two victims around waiting for the right moment to cause the fatal accident? Would he be concerned he would be spotted by the victims or caught on a surveillance camera. Was the "confidential" informant going to drive around Oregon with Idaho plates?

Certainly Steele would have known he would have been the number one suspect no matter if he had a alibi or not. Surely he would have realized that his every move was being monitored anyway, surely Steele would have known there would have been no way he could have transferred $25,000 and then another $100,000 to the killer or killer's family without being caught. Steele may well be on a list of American terrorist!

Given that Steele's wife was driving a SUV with seat belts and air bags, just how much destruction/impact going to be needed to cause a fatal accident. And given that the women is the car were older and elderly, just what was the chance that they would be have been traveling at a high enough rate of speed to cause significant damage that could cause two fatalities.

If the attempt to create the accident failed and the "confidential" informant was caught, surely it would have only been a matter of time before the authorities connected the "confidential" informant to Steele.

Surely Steele is smarter then the "confidential" informant, and if Steele did want "confidential" informant to kill his wife and mother-in-law Steele certainly would have mapped out in great detail the plans for the accident. Smarter men to not trust lesser men to to get something of importance done and it is obvious that this accident was extremely important.


If the accusation are true, Steele would have spent months planing the murder of his wife and mother-in-law. Surely he would have seen that the plan had virtually no chance of being successful. Steele is a lawyer and likely could find many more potential points of failure then those listed above. And like the say, if one other person knows, everybody knows.

So it would seem much more probable, that if Steele wanted to kill his wife he would have done it some way where he would not have had to involved somebody else. For example, and accident during a rafting or mountain hiking or a created a suicide. Sure, Steele may not have had an air tight alibi, but nobody else would have known the truth and Steele just could have rolled the dice.


But given all the above, the authorities claim to have Steele on tape ...

For example, just because a pipe bomb, if that's what it was, managed to, say, take out a brake line, what are the odds that wife and mother would be in the car and that the car would be careening down a mountain road without a guard rail and that the driver would not have sense enough to apply the emergency brake? It would take something like C-4 to cause a serious problem with a fuel tank. Think about how you'd plan it and you'll probably conclude that it would require someone following the vehicle with a remote detonator. And how would you ever make it look like an accident?

I read Bill Whites charges and it seems from the report that he was egging it on to be arrested. of course that is the official MSM story so I don't know if it was true or not. Yes I agree with you. However, if Steele was having any sort of problem someone would have known. I mean look how he always expressed himself openly. When his dad died, when he had the illness, his admittance of prostate cancer. NO, I say there were no family problems with him just getting out of hospital at Christmas and deciding to murder his family. generally Doctors are number one professionals to murder the wives. And also remember the so called witness informant said he wanted it to look like an accident. How does a pipe bomb under a vehicle look like an accident? Everything they have said is contradictory.

The informant met with Steele again on Thursday, this time wearing a recording device.

Meaning that the first alleged conversation which was supposedly "monitored" by the FBI wasn't even recorded.

The FBI is framing him. Words can't even describe how sick this is making me feel.

It is hard to believe that Steele, his property, and communications were not under 24/7 surveillance. I don't know about that, but I think my mail's been opened. When I picked it up today, I spent about a minute staring at the back of a letter (that wasn't even addressed to me but to the previous occupants) from different angles in the light. I don't normally do that, but the envelope looked weird, like it had been opened and then resealed but that the "flap" that has the glue on it had gotten ruffled in the process.

I know the mail processing machines they use at the post office can sometimes damage envelopes in ways that make them look like they've been opened, and I also reasoned that maybe the sender had just used an envelope that was in rough shape. But then, when I opened the piece of mail that was addressed to me, it just peeled right open like the adhesive had already been broken (this particular envelope used an unusual rubber cement-type seal which normally takes more effort to break). Nothing was missing from the envelope, though.

I don't want to jump to conclusions, maybe I'm wrong, but I'll be keeping an eye out for more signs like this over the next week.

I just examined that first envelope again and I'm not kidding, it really does look and feel as though someone steamed it open and then resealed it. The top of the envelope looks like it got wet and the texture feels different (rougher) than the rest of the envelope. It hasn't rained today.

She is a woman over 50, with an elderly mother, and it may be a year or more before she will understand the implications going on around her with none the of the outcomes being anything but negative and painful.

If she does have a obsessive-convulsive disorder with regard to vehicle maintenance wouldn't have been much more likely that she would have had the car oil changed before last Friday, the day she planed to make he long trip to Oregon to see in mother?

One explanation could be that whomever attached the pipe bomb to the car also drained enough oil from the car to trigger a warning light to be activated. Or maybe the bomber planter left enough under the car to get her attention so that she would seek advice from a mechanic and the bomb would be found. Obviously the bomb was not meant to be detonated.

Perhaps his wife wanted to change the oil or do maintenance after the long drive from Oregon. She did so at 12:30 when Steele's hearing was at 16:30. Her conduct in court was very supportive of her husband.

Hello to everyone and listen up. I have an idea to help Steele and I am going to give it to you. Anyone wanting to add to it please speak up.
Here is my proposal: I think we should set up a Steele defense fund account payable by money order only and all money orders made out to Steele defense fund.
I think a goal of 300,000 should be the goal and that means we would need to reach 30,000 people willing to at least give 10.00. Now no matter how poor we all are, everyone can manage to scrape up 10.00 from somewhere. We should put a post in this site and have the moderator or controller of the site to be the handler of the funds. Each time a donation is made the controller would post that person and his/her contribution to the post. This way we could all keep up with the names listed, so as to be sure the money is accounted for.
I suggest we make a button to be distributed all over the internet and on people's sites for those who have sites and for a link in our emails for those of us who can place such in our email signature. With 30,000 people donating a simple 10.00 we can raise 300,000 for Steele's defense fund. Let's face it, Steele is gonna need money to pay for experts. For starters he is going to have to have an expert in voice manipulation. I also think he should challenge the destruction of evidence concerning them blowing up the pipe bomb or whatever it was, so he may need explosives experts as well. Who can make html code with a picture of Steele and a few words about our cause? How about the person willing to handle the funds? Does any of this sound reasonable to any of you??? Please, let's not just stand by and watch as another of our own is railroaded to prison. Let's get together on this one and do this thing I suggest. Think about it, only 30,000 people giving a mere 10.00 and we can really help Steele in a very troubling time. I don't know about that, but I think my mail's been opened. When I picked it up today, I spent about a minute staring at the back of a letter (that wasn't even addressed to me but to the previous occupants) from different angles in the light. I don't normally do that, but the envelope looked weird, like it had been opened and then resealed but that the "flap" that has the glue on it had gotten ruffled in the process.

I know the mail processing machines they use at the post office can sometimes damage envelopes in ways that make them look like they've been opened, and I also reasoned that maybe the sender had just used an envelope that was in rough shape. But then, when I opened the piece of mail that was addressed to me, it just peeled right open like the adhesive had already been broken (this particular envelope used an unusual rubber cement-type seal which normally takes more effort to break). Nothing was missing from the envelope, though.

I don't want to jump to conclusions, maybe I'm wrong, but I'll be keeping an eye out for more signs like this over the next week.
I think anyone that the government dislikes is being monitored. In fact I believe that most mail is never received because they intercept our mail, especially if it is something really intelligent and informative. I have absolutely no trust in government anymore.

I don't consider myself a nazi, racist or any of those Jewish smear words, so that comment does not apply to me. Steele is facing conspiracy to commit murder charges and I bet he would love to know he is supported in his time of trouble and I bet he would be glad to take a helping hand of money. Appearing for the first time on federal charges related to an alleged murder-for-hire plot, Edgar Steele described himself Tuesday as a “frail” and “elderly” man who’s undergone four surgeries in the past six months, including open heart surgery. He also blasted the federal agents for seizing what he said were attorney-client files regarding federal cases with pending appeals.

The 64-year-old attorney, known for his unsuccessful defense of the Aryan Nations in the landmark 2000 case that bankrupted the racist group, represented himself during the hearing and pleaded “absolutely, completely not guilty” to a charge that he hired a man to kill his wife and mother-in-law.

The charge, use of interstate commerce for the commission of murder for hire, carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Steele is reportedly on voice record telling an FBI informant “to make sure that they were dead after the accident because Edgar Steele did not want to take care of a paraplegic” and promising to compensate the informant’s family if he got caught, according to a probable cause affidavit prepared by the FBI.

In court Tuesday, Steele said he’s not a flight risk and dispute an apparent claim from the government in confidential records that his writings show he would flee prosecution. He said his writings show just the opposite, that he will stand for what he believes in and respects “the American way.”

Steele appeared most passionate when arguing against the no contact order between him and the alleged victims. At one point, Assistant U.S Attorney Traci Whelan asked Judge Candy Dale to order Steele to address the judge instead of her. Dale did.

After the no contact order was issued, Steele pointed in the direction of his wife and son, prompting Whelan to say to Dale: “Your honor I just ask that the record reflect that Mr. Steele just pointed at his wife and directed her to get up and talk to me.”

Steele said he pointed at his son - not his wife. “I know better than that, your honor,” he said. He added, “Understand that this is a very emotional situation for me.”

Steele has been in custody since Friday after a raid at his home at 1569 Talache Road, about 10 miles south of Sandpoint and just east of Shepherd Lake.

On Tuesday, just hours after a grand jury indicted him, Steele said federal authorities seized “our life savings” during the raid and that he hopes to hire private counsel but isn’t sure he’ll be able to. A public defender will be assigned for his bail hearing, set for next Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in Coeur d’Alene.

His court appearance yesterday came just hours after a bomb was discovered on his wife’s SUV.

I've held my tongue on the Matt Hale case until now because I have agreed with him to serve as defense counsel in his anticipated retrial.

You see, Hale was declared a domestic terrorist and has been held incommunicado under provisions of the draconian and woefully-misnamed Patriot Act. Those associated with the case have been required to sign "SAM" (Special Administrative Procedure") documents which require their public silence. The Feds mean business, too, as lawyers are sitting in federal prison cells right now, accused of violating SAM agreements in other cases. I haven't signed a SAM document in Hale's case yet because I have not taken on an official role. Of course, I haven't been given direct access to Hale, either. We have been forced to communicate in writing, by letter...when my letters haven't been denied to Hale and returned by the authorities, that is. Even so, an attorney-client relationship has existed between Hale and myself for some time now.

Well glad to see I'm wrong and he's got all his wits about him. So he's been set up. Does anyone know who the judge is? If by some stroke of lighting he gets a non kosher real judge not out to hang him from the get go he just might beat this.

A Sagle man confessed to a federal agent that he built and installed a pipe bomb on the car driven by the wife of North Idaho Attorney Edgar J. Steele as part of a murder-for-hire plot.

Larry Fairfax faces federal firearms and bomb charges. Fairfax made his initial court appearance Wednesday and remains in custody pending a detention hearing, said Assistant U.S. Attorney for Idaho Traci Whelan. If convicted, he could go to prison for 10 years and pay a 10,000 fine. Fairfax told the agent he'd put the device on Cyndi Steele's vehicle on or about May 30th. Fairfax said Steele told him his wife would be driving the vehicle to Oregon on May 31 and he wanted the device to explode and cause a fatal car crash.

Steele planned to ignite a second device, which Fairfax admitted building, under his own car to provide an alibi that both he and his wife were targets for murder, the probable cause affidavit said. Fairfax gave the second explosive device to authorities.

Steele remains in the Kootenai County Jail on murder-for-hire charges.

On Tuesday, a pipe bomb was found beneath a car registered to Edgar J. Steele.

The bomb was discovered when a woman brought the vehicle -- registered to Steele -- to a Coeur d'Alene oil change shop. Employees found the bomb, moved the vehicle and called police, said Lt. Jay Heintz with Coeur d'Alene police. During a court appearance Tuesday, Steele pleaded not guilty to the murder-for-hire charges. The judge declined to release Steele and barred him from contacting his wife or mother-in-law, said Assistant U.S. Attorney for Idaho Traci Whelan. The judge also appointed federal public defenders to represent Steele. He faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. It is unclear at this point whether Steele faces additional charges.

"It is an ongoing investigation and we will just have to see where it leads," Whelan said.

Steele, 64, was initially charged on Friday -- the same day the women allegedly were to be killed in a car crash.

A confidential witness occasionally employed by Steele met agents last week and said Steele would pay him to murder the women. It is also unclear whether Fairfax is the confidential witness.

The witness said Steele had discussed a list of people he wanted dead, including his wife and her mother, six months earlier. The witness agreed to the plot and accepted travel money, court documents say.

According to the affidavit, agents concealed a device on the informant and recorded Steele planning the murders, according to court documents.

The witness told the FBI Steele paid $500 in cash for travel expenses and promised as much as $25,000 if the murders were completed on Friday. According to the affidavit, Steele promised the witness another $100,000 if an insurance policy paid out after his wife's murder.

It is unclear if the confidential informant is Larry Fairfax.

Steele is well known from his work for hate groups such as the Aryan Nations. He unsuccessfully defended the hate group and its founder Richard Butler in a multimillion-dollar lawsuit brought against them in 2000. That loss ultimately bankrupted the Aryan Nations. Steele is also known for vocal anti-Semitic and racist rants on the Internet.

CALDWELL – Judge Candy Dale, chief magistrate judge for the U.S. District of Idaho, has been named the 2010 recipient of the Kate Feltham Award by the Idaho Women Lawyers, Inc. Judge Dale, who serves on the College of Idaho Board of Trustees, was chosen for her achievements in promoting equal rights and opportunities for women and minorities in Idaho’s legal profession and legal justice system.

In announcing the award, Peg Dougherty, president of the IWL Board of Directors, said that Dale had worked throughout her legal career to advocate for equal rights for women and minorities in the workplace. “As a federal magistrate, Judge Dale has sought to implement programs that extend the protections of the law to cover women and minorities and ensure fairness. She has been a pioneer in taking leadership roles, beginning in law school and continuing into her busy judicial position.”

The Kate Feltham award honors one of Idaho’s earliest advocates for women’s rights and a female pioneer in Idaho’s legal system. Kate Feltham was one of the leaders in the movement to give Idaho women the vote and served as president of the Caldwell branch of the Idaho Equal Suffrage Association. For a while she taught English and public speaking at the College of Idaho. In 1914, she became the fifth woman admitted to the practice of law in Idaho, and, in 1926, she became the first female county prosecutor in Idaho for Washington County.

Judge Dale received the Kate Feltham Award in a presentation by the Idaho Women Lawyers on April 7. She is currently vice-president elect of the College of Idaho Board of Trustees and an alumnus of the college.

To hear Mr. Steele accused of this plot is beyond shocking. He's beyond a movement icon, but a commentator and Internet voice many of us feel we know and instinctively trust.

Steele... pleaded with U.S. District Court Judge Candy Dale to release him from jail before next week’s bail hearing to tend to his clients and “put my affairs in order.”

“I’m certainly no threat to witnesses or jurors and there’s no evidence – absolutely no evidence – to support that,” Steele said.

But Assistant U.S. Attorney Traci Whelan told Dale that developments “within the last few hours” show Steele is “a substantial risk to the public,” and the judge ordered Steele held pending next week’s hearing. .


Steele’s wife and son were at the federal courthouse in Coeur d’Alene about 4:30 p.m. for his first court appearance, where he asked to be released while awaiting a bail hearing scheduled for next Tuesday. The judge declined and ordered Steele not to contact his mother-in-law and wife...

Steele called the order “an unconscionable” assault on his marriage and asked Dale to consult Steele’s wife and son before ruling, saying they “are in no danger from me.

Steele’s wife and son, who appeared to be in his early 20s, declined interviews but spoke with Whelan at the hearing and communicated with Steele before the no-contact order.

“I need to be allowed to talk to my husband – I need to not be stripped of my car,” she said to court officials.

Steele was scheduled to appear in court Monday, but the hearing was delayed after the U.S. attorney’s office in the federal courthouse in Coeur d’Alene received a letter containing a suspicious white powder and was evacuated.

COUER D'ALENE, Idaho (CNN/KREM) - A mechanic is lucky to be alive, and may have saved lives, after making a shocking discovery. Authorities believe a man plotted to kill his wife by paying to have a pipe bomb attached to her car. But the wife's mechanic discovered it before it went off.

"I've been doing this 10 years, that's the first time I've seen anything like that," said mechanic Josh Young.

Young took a picture of the pipe bomb and sent it to the FBI. Police were called in, and then he moved the fuses to keep it from going off.

"We just kinda tied the fuses away from the exhaust so that we wouldn't touch the exhaust and get hot and ignite," Young explained.

The crew then pushed the car out of the shop, the bomb squad removed the bomb and detonated it.

The car belonged to Edgar Steele, a former Aryan Nations lawyer now accused of plotting to kill his wife and his mother-in-law. Steele's wife reportedly drives the SUV. Court documents show Steele hired Larry Fairfax to make two pipe bombs and place one under Steele's wife's SUV. She'd been driving around with the bomb ready to go off for two weeks.

Here's a challenge to you reporters: go talk to more of Fairfax' neighbors. You will find that a very large proportion of them hate Larry's guts and will probably tell you that he has ripped them off in business transactions. Also, ask some of his former employees whether or not he's tried to short-change them on their paychecks. I feel sorry for his wife and kids because they seem pretty decent, but Larry is a real piece of work.

During a meeting on June 10, Steele told the witness he would call the next day when his wife left their house in the SUV.

So now we are to believe that Steele is going to leave a phone record connecting him with the hit-man that would indicate that Steele contact the hit-man immediately after his wife left the house. Whatever "alibi" Steele had planned for himself must have been very airtight in deed.

Here is a look at those who will be Judge Jury and executioner of Steele, even before he is tried. id Steele's Wife is reading any of the blogs, she needs to allow the media to interview her and profess her support of her Husband's innocence and relate to the phone threats and so forth for years. This way the public can see that Steele has been a target and that FBI refused to prosecute those who did it, even as Steele reported it to them. She needs to use the media to her interests and help. Dropped charges?! WTF?

This is the first information about Oregon City. My searches pointed to Bend Oregon. Supposedly meeting in a horse barn would indicate that Steele was worried about his ranch house being bugged.

The bomb was supposedly placed on Cyndi's SUV before she left for Oregon. Why would Fairfax need $400 travel money to get there? Sounds like a risky bomb installation there. This thing reeks.

COEUR D'ALENE -- While meeting with a hitman, a North Idaho attorney accused of plotting to murder his wife and mother-in-law said he "had no second thoughts" and "wanted the plan carried out."
New FBI documents obtained by KREM 2 News Thursday reveal what one witness told them about his meetings with Edgar Steele, and Steele's plan to have his wife and mother-in-law murdered.

In an interview with the FBI on Wednesday, June 9, the witness said he has known Steele, 64, for about 20 years, and has worked on several projects with him in the past. About six months ago, while working on a project together, the witness said Steele brought up names of people he wanted killed, mentioning both his wife, Cyndi, and her mother.

The witness told agents he agreed to carry out the killings, planned for Friday, June 11. He told agents he was instructed to make the killings look like a car crash in order for Steele to receive an insurance payment.
After agreeing to the plot, the witness said he was told where Steele's mother-in-law lives in Oregon City, Or., and even traveled there to scout the location.

FBI officials say Steele and the witness met twice, on June 9 and 10, to discuss the plot, and both times the FBI equipped the witness with a recording device.

Court documents show the plan was for Larry Fairfax, 49, to put a pipe bomb under Cyndi Steele's SUV, and a second one under Steele's car, so that when the first one went off, Steele could ignite his and claim both were targeted for murder.

Both pipe bombs were discovered Tuesday when Cyndi dropped the cars off at a Coeur d'Alene Quick Lube for an oil change, the same day Steele appeared in court on federal murder-for-hire charges. Fairfax admitted to building the bombs and his role in the plot.

Agents say the witness and Steele first met in a horse barn on Steele's property in Sagle, Id., where Steele said he would pay the witness $100,000 after the murders were carried out and the insurance payment came through. The witness requested $400 up front to cover travel costs to Oregon City to carry out the murders. Steele paid the money, and planned out an alibi and contingency plans if only one of the women were killed.

During a meeting on June 10, Steele told the witness he would call the next day when Cyndi left their house in the SUV. Steele insisted that the witness would only be paid after both women were dead and he was not considered a suspect.

Steele said he insisted on a hit that looked like a car crash to ensure both women died because he "did not want to take care of a paraplegic."
FBI agents recorded Steele saying multiple times during the meeting that he had "no second thoughts" and "wanted the plan carried out." Steele also discussed methods of payment if either of them were arrested by police.

Steele was arrested Friday, June 11.

KREM 2 News asked FBI officials whether the witness in the documents was Larry Fairfax, the man charged with making and placing the bombs on Steele's vehicles, to which they said they could neither confirm nor deny.
