It is very symbolic that Tony Blairs Government has sent them into the role he has, in Northern Iraq.

It was only a few weeks ago, that Blair wanted to 'scrap' the Black Watch Regiment.

What has changed his tune ?

The 'Black Watch' are the oldest Regiment in the British Army as far as I know. Is that not symbolic ?

(The Black Watch refers to the colour of their kilts).

Question? Why does the United States armed forces need 650 British troops to move north ? Can't the United States armed forces scamble together 650 more soldiers? Something really stinks here.

1. British troops should not be in Iraq defending Israel's eastern border.

2. All British troops should be removed NOW and we must stop being pawns of the Zionist-Jewish state.

Sorry to be pedantic, but I think the Royal Scots are the oldest regiment, unofficially nicknamed 'Pontiaus Pilates bodyguard'!!!!

The Coldstream Guards were in the old parliamentary army during the English civil war, and the Grenadiers can trace their regimental ancestry back to the 1660's.

I believe the Black Watch were formed after the 1745 Jacobite rising, to keep watch on the highlands. I am sure if I am wrong I hope a fellow VNN'er will correct me!!!.

Of course it is absolutely disgusting that the Government is sending them to the 'triangle of death', Blair has now said that the Black Watch specifically will be home by Christmas, which means we now have an open-ended commitment to the main sphere of terrorist operations.

Yes you are right about the older Regiments. I had seen it mentioned on some TV channel suggesting the Black Watch being the oldest. Maybe they meant the oldest Scots Regiment.

The Black Watch are the oldest HIGHLAND Regiment and were formed in 1743 by the amalgamation of a number of independant companies raised to "Watch the Highlands" for rebels and raiding clansmen.

The "Black" part is lost in the mists of time. Some say it was because they were meant to suppress BLACKMAIL...then a form of protection racket where robbers were paid-off so they would not steal cattle etc. Others refer to their dark tartan or their Black hanoverian or Campbell hearts (No offence..just quoting history)

Originally numbered the 43rd they were renumbered the 42nd regiment of foot soon after their formation. They were made a Royal Regiment for their gallantry in The French and Indian War, especially their courage at TICONDEROGA against the French (upstate NY). They were prominant in crushing pontiacs rebellion in 1763/4 by their victory at BUSHY RUN.
